Kotoka International Airport allegedly handed over for privatization for 15 years

Members of the Ghana Airport Workers Union at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) is embarking on a protest against the Privatisation of Airport between the Ghana Government and the Turkish Consortium TAV / SUMMA.

Information gathered indicates that the Government of Ghana under the Office of President Akuffo Addo and Aviation Minister, Joseph Koffi Adda signed a 15-year agreement for the takeover of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by Turkish Consortium TAV/SUMMA.

The agreement indicates that an initial loan seed capital of 300 million dollars will be paid for the next 15 years starting with 70 million dollars for the first 5 years of operations.

Per documents spotted revealed that the agreement was finalised on June 2, 2020, but the entire process began in 2017.

Meanwhile, the take-over is in line with President Akuffo Addo’s national policy priority aimed at developing Ghana as an aviation hub in Sub – Sahara African. And this includes the newly built terminal 3, 2, 1 and the entire management of the Airport.

Details on this will follow as and when they come in.
