“This seven member committee which has been instituted by the inner director of education as a fact finding committee to investigate the incident which led to the student riots on the 7th of July including the demise of one of the students here until we come out with recommendations for GES”.

He continued to say that the  committee has been given one week to finish with the investigations and present their findings to the Regional Director of Education.

He revealed that the first day of their sitting has been hectic. He said some interviews where conducted with some of the people involved including the Senior house master and the house master of the school.

He said further interviews will be conducted tomorrow to establish what really transpired.

This committee has been set up following the death of one of the students of the KNUST Senior High School which brought a lot of  citizens demanding an explanation as to what actually happened.

The incident also have seen the Headmistress of the school, Madam Felicia Asamoah Dankwa being suspended from her position by the Ghana Education service. In a statement from the GES, the headmistress was asked to asked tohand over immediately to the Ashanti Regional Education directorate immediately.

The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu last week also mounted a strong defense against the interdiction of the KNUST Senior High School’s headmistress following the alleged neglect of a student which led to his demise.

According to him, the headmistress had not contributed in any way to the demise of the student and was not to be punished for it.

He stated that per his own investigation into the circumstances leading to the untimely demise of the student, he believes the school authorities were right in their actions.

A maiden hearing has been done which saw headmistress of the school and Senior Housemaster, Seth Owusu Ansah, among witnesses heard at the maiden hearing behind closed doors.
