Lawyers at point of collation will ensure everything is done within “parameters of the law”- NDC

Lawyers at point of collation will ensure everything is done within “parameters of the law”- NDC

Ahead of the general elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed that lawyers will be designated to all polling stations to monitor the election process.

The Director of Elections for the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah says the party will assign one lawyer to every collation centre on Election Day to protect the ballot.

As such, he has endeared members of the party to devote resources to police the ballot to ensure victory for John Mahama.

“We are involving our lawyers so that at the point of collation, they will be there to ensure that everything is done within the parameters of the law”.

Also present at the workshop was the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, who implored them to be vigilant at their various voting centers.

“It is the aggregate of the polling station results that will give us the victory come December 7. So my clarion call is that, identify yourself with a polling station. If for nothing at all, where you vote, make sure that on election day you are staying there from morning till the election results are declared”.

He made this revelation at a capacity building workshop for lawyers and former appointees of the party in Kumasi, which will subsequently be simulated across the country in an effort to train them to guard the ballot at all polling centers.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo further indicated that the party is in the process of exploring outdoor sources of funding to execute manifesto promises.

The capacity-building workshop was organised under the auspices of Regional Chairman, Nana Kwasi Andrews and was intended to also train participants on the works of the Constitutional Instrument governing election 2020.

The NDC has also deemed it necessary to form a legal committee and has consequently attracted lawyers from its camp to assist in resolving issues that may crop up at the collation centers in this year’s elections.

Meanwhile, the Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana, has rubbished claims by the incumbent New Patriotic Party’s comment on creating over two million jobs in its first term in office.

“They have quoted that, they have provided over 700,000 jobs in the public sector, and I am surprised because it is a blatant lie. The public sector of Ghana has close to 700,000 employees on the public payroll, and the country spends GHS14.4 billion on these people annually. So how is it possible that President Akufo-Addo and the NPP can claim that they have created over 700,000 jobs in that sector?”

Mr. Agbana further urged the NPP to desist from throwing dust into the eyes of the public and instead engage in politics that will make Ghana better.

“I think the young people of Ghana deserve the politics of truth and the politics that is developmental in nature. We must not continue to go to the old ways of doing things and be mentioning figures that are wrong”.
