Elections Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie

The Elections Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has debunked claims that the New Patriotic Party has the majority of the parliamentary seats as the party is purporting.

Speaking during a news conference today, 8th December 2020 to clarify claims and also give an update on the electoral process and wins for the party, he revealed that, it is not true that the NPP has won majority of the parliamentary seats, but the NDC is rather leading with 140 seats.

He also falsified claims of the NPP winning in the three Northern Region. He noted that, the NDC was leading with 14 out of 15 seats in the Upper West Region, 9 out of 18 in the Northern Region and eight seats in the Upper east region per their data.

Touching on the nationwide parliamentary seats acquired by the NDC so far, he reiterated that the party currently has 140 majority wins which according to him, the NDC won two in North East, six in the Bono Region, two in Ahafo Region, nine in Bono, eight in Upper West, nine in Western, seven in Western North, 20 in Greater Accra, 13 in Central Region, eight in Oti Region, 17 in Volta Region, four in Savanna Region, eight in the Ashanti Region and four in Eastern Region.

He also indicated that, based on the figures the party has so far, “the trajectory is clear; indeed”, and they are leading in the Greater Accra Region in the presidential, they are also leading in the western enclave, the Bono enclave and are confident that by the time they compile the rest of the results for the presidential candidate, they will be in pole position to be the one that will become the President adding that, John Mahama will be the President of the Republic .

The NDC also alleged that, the governing NPP was employing various tricks to outwit election officials.

“If you want a recount, there’s a process that you have to go through. The first recount, you must request for it at the polling station, when that is done, if you are not satisfied, you have to request for the second collation at the collation centre.

“We’ve had situations where there were no recounts at all and then they go to the collation centre and they insist on recounts and by the time those recounts start, then funny things happen: ballot boxes are swapped, we’ve had situations where, in Sefwi, a ballot box was swapped and so many others so we see that as a strategy, that because they know they are losing, they use the recount and then in the process they do all kinds of things.”

The Elections Director also urged the Party agents and the officials in charge to remain vigilant as the nation was getting closer to announcing the winner at 5pm today.
