Protest Peacefully – Mahama To Protesters

Former President John Dramani Mahama

The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says the party has won the parliamentary seats in ten of the sixteen regions in the country. He said this win will reflect his “clear win” as the next President of the republic.

He said the party has so far won 140 seats in parliament and as such, shows a clear win for him as the presidential candidate.

He then expressed his gratitude to the Ghanaian voters “for believing in him and the NDC.”

He further registered the NDC’s readiness to resist any attempt to rig the elections by the NPP. He said the party is on high alert and will protect “the win” they have chalked.

“No attempt should be made to rig this election, we will resist it. We thank the Ghanaian people for the confidence they have expressed in us. It’s clear the Ghanaian people want a change in this country. Ghanaians are tired of Akufo Addo and his government.
“We thank the electorate for giving us the working majority in parliament, 140 seats in parliament which is a majority, and no attempt should be made to subvert that.

“I have looked at the results we have collated so far and I’m happy with the results. We’ve won in ten regions out of sixteen regions and the Ghanaian people have expressed confidence in us. We’ll resist any attempt to subvert the will of the people.”

Mr. Mahama then alleged the use of the military by government to rig the elections. He said the NDC will not stand aloof for the choice of the Ghanaian voters to be taken from them.

“You cannot use the military to try and overturn some of the results in constituencies that we have won. We will resist any attempt to subvert the sovereign will of the people; the right thing must be done. We collated our results and we thank the Ghanaian people for the confidence they have in us.”

He noted that the party will give details of its win very soon as he urged party’s supporters to keep calm while the nation waits for the final results from the Electoral Commission.

At the same press briefing, the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Aseidu Nketia alleged the government is using some media firms to send “wrong information” across. He, therefore, debunked all projections from media houses tipping President Akufo Addo of winning the presidential seat.

He said if any party has the right to celebrate; it is the NDC and in the vein, directed party members and supporters to go out and celebrate the party’s “big win.
