Award-winning Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson.

Award-winning actress, Lydia Forson, has said that the prayers are not enough and things need to be put in place to end the occurrence of market fire outbreaks.

The ‘Keteke’ star’s comment follows the outbreak of fire at the Kantamanto market that occurred at about 10 pm yesterday, 16th December.

The Actress lamented that indeed Ghanaians have prayed about fires ravaging the country, however, she questioned that aside from the prayers, what are the other measures that have been put in place to stop these unfortunate events from happening since it seems to be an annual phenomenon.

“Beyond prayers; can’t we move to put things in place to ensure these fires don’t happen again? Because the prayers ‘die33 ya b) saaa’ but every year or so, a section of a market burns down”.

She further registered her displeasure about the whole situation and said ‘It’s really sad, to be honest’.

Her fans also came out to share their opinion on the topic being discussed.

“We don’t need prayers o, we need our minds to work, and that’s why I don’t buy into this construction of a cathedral if we still have dead brains and minds towards maintenance and development. But I don’t blame the president for that though since all we want is praying yet…

“It is time our leaders rethink on reengineering our market structures these makeshift wooden structures are not helping the hustling Ghanaian. Every year there’s a fire raging these market and people hard earn investment turns into ashes.#kantamanto.

“@lydiaforson don’t you also think someone is intentionally behind it?”

Large parts of the Kantamanto market in Accra’s central business district was reported to have been gutted by fire.

The firestorm, according to an eyewitness, started from a place close to the Agbogbloshie Market at about 10 pm on Tuesday.

Though there were no casualties, property, and goods running into hundreds of thousands of cedis have been lost as the fire razed many shops.

Personnel from the Ghana Fire Service were also at the scene to quench the fire which had already cause extensive damage to the area.

Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, a crowd gathered at the scene as security personnel and the fire service tried to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, just yesterday, 16th December, eight shops near the Metro Mass Bus terminal at the Koforidua Central Business District was razed by fire.

The fire which started in the morning destroyed goods worth millions of Ghana cedis as shop owners looked on helplessly.

Just like the case of the Kantamanto fire outbreak, the cause of the fire is still not known, however, some neighboring shop owners have attributed it to an electrical fault.

That notwithstanding, a similar fire outbreak swept through the GCB Bank tower at Kantamanto in Accra two weeks ago.

The fire which was detected in the early hours of the day, was successfully extinguished by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) with the support of the Ghana Police Service and GCB Bank internal security and Staff.

Fortunately, there was no casualty during and after the fire outbreak.
