We expect petition will be telecast live- Amaliba

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Abraham Amaliba, has expressed the party’s resolve to request for a live transmission of the hearing of their petition contesting the 2020 general elections in the Supreme Court as witnessed in 2012.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Abraham Amaliba, has expressed the party’s resolve to request for a live transmission of the hearing of their petition contesting the 2020 general elections in the Supreme Court as witnessed in 2012.

With the opposition party’s refusal to concede to their loss in the general election, it is yet to formally announce the petition.

However, Mr. Amaliba insists the decision of the party borders on the fringes of fairness as hints of challenging the 2020 presidential results as well as the parliamentary results of the Techiman South Constituency remain telling.

“We expect to be treated fairly, this is a national issue. We also expect that if we are able to make our case beyond a reasonable doubt, I am sure that the Supreme Court will hold that Nana Akufo-Addo did not attain the required 50 +1 votes.

“Indeed, we also expect that the petition will be telecast live. Any attempt to hinder that will create the impression that the hearing is not going to be fair, so we will put in the request to have it telecast live”.

John Mahama, the flagbearer of one of the major political parties on the Ghanaian scene refused to concede to President Akufo-Addo’s election victory, describes the declared results as fictionalized.

According to him, Ghanaians from every region “of this great nation voted for change” and as such they were victors in “both the Presidential and the Parliamentary elections”.

Expressing his belief in being “a staunch believer in the experiment of democracy”, he noted that the system of governance allows the “ultimate decision-making power to rest in the hands” of the people of Ghana.

Conceding to the fact the he succumbed and respected “the will of the people” by stepping down to pave way for President Akufo-Addo, as the progress of a nation is dependent on it, the “sacred verdict of the people must be respected”.

“My Brothers and Sisters, it is important to remember that the government that is in power controls all of the state resources and oversees all of the state’s institutions. The line he treads between his loyalty to the power that is held by the people, and by his own desire to hold on to power, can be a thin one indeed”.

Mr. Mahama polled some 6,213,182 votes representing 47.359% of the total declared result by the Electoral Commission.

With the presidential result being one of the contended election results in the public sphere, the Techiman South constituency has also been bedeviled with its own controversy with the NDC’s claims of winning by 293 votes.

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority Leader in Parliament said the figures from the party’s collation proves that the declaration of Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah of the NPP as MP elect of the constituency is illegitimate and should be overturned.

“The NDC Minority is statistically accurate and we cannot be in denial, it can only be one of a perpetuated fraud of collusion between the ruling government and a compromised electoral commission. Nowhere in our fourth republic history have the electoral officers struggled to share declared results with candidates and with representatives of candidates.
