First Female CEO of SCB Becomes GAB President

Mansa Nettey

The first female Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Ghana Limited, Mansa Nettey, has been appointed by the General Council of the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB) as President of the association for her great strides in the Banking industry.

Mansa Nettey succeeds Chief Alhassan Andani, the immediate past President of the Association who stepped down following his retirement after spearheading the affairs of Stanbic Bank Ghana as Managing Director.

As a seasoned banker, Mansa Nettey has over two decades of experience in the banking industry. She comes on board with a vast knowledge and experience in the fields of corporate and investment banking, digitization, innovation, sustainability, governance and risk management combined with excellent leadership skills.

Mansa Nettey is also recognized for contributing extensively to the development of the financial and capital markets in Ghana and across West Africa, as well as pioneering risk management solutions for corporates and sovereigns.

This is not surprising as Capital Market development has been a key area of interest for Standard Chartered Bank with the bank being at the fore front of the financial market development supporting trade and investment activities.

The Bank also played a leading role in the creation of a secondary Fixed-Income market for bond trading to increase trading channels and improved price discovery for Investors and Issuers.

Highlighting her role as President of the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB), it is expected that Mansa Nettey is going to lead the association in negotiating industry issues with the Bank of Ghana and government as well as other matters aimed at protecting the interest of banks in the country.

The Ghanaian banking executive happens to be the first female Chief Executive Officer (CEO) appointed on March 1, 2017 by Standard Chartered Bank in its 120-year history in Ghana.

Prior to being appointed CEO of Stanchart, Mansa started her banking career as the Relationship Manager of the Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited, soaring high to become Executive Director of the Bank’s Board in 2013.

She also played the role of Non-Executive Director of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank of Nigeria, former head of foreign exchange in Ghana and across West Africa.

Mansa Nettey holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana where she had her first degree. She then furthered her education receiving a Master’s in Business Administration from Manchester Business School in the United Kingdom.

Also, for the role of Vice President of the Ghana Association of Bankers to assist Mansa Nettey is the Managing Director of ECOBANK, Mr. Daniel Sackey who has also been endorsed by the General Council of the association.

Daniel Sackey is equally an accomplished career banker with over 25 years of banking experience within the Sub-Sahara Africa. He brings on board deep understanding and an invaluable executive experience to an industry that is at the forefront of transformation in the country.

Both are astute bankers who will steer the affairs of the Banking industry henceforth.
