I Will Faithfully Administer Justice- Godfred Dame Abraham Amaliba

Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame

The Attorney General-designate, Godfred Yeboah Dame has intimated that, he will administer justice faithfully when he becomes the Attorney General of the country.

Speaking during his vetting session, he stated that, he will ensure justice is served irrespective of the ethnic group or the political affiliation.

A member of the appointment committee questioning him on what he was going to do on the issues between the bar and the bench, specifically what he will do to breach the gap created, which has caused some lawyers being called before the general legal counsel, he indicated that, he will ensure that there is some sanity between the legal bodies by ensuring both parties abide by the line of work of their profession with dignity and respect.

“Mr Chairman, I will say that lawyers have to abide by their profession. I am relatively conservative in my thinking but I will like to also urge judges to work in accordance to their code of profession, with dignity and respect and also to conduct fairly their sound judgement which can stand the test of time.”

Mr. Dame said

Mr. Dame noted that, respect and harmony can be achieved between the bar and the bench through the adherence of both sides to the dictates of their code of conduct.  He said that, a lawyer is supposed to observe or fulfil the duty of a lawyer, to the court, client and the profession and must ensure that when cases are pending before court, they will not be passing unnecessary comments or prejudice the outcome which will even undermine the duty to society.

He also encouraged judges to exercise their discretion soundly in accordance with the dictates of justice per the rule of law to ensure there is peace.

When asked to what extent his obligation to the President and the constitution would be, should he be required to give a fair opinion on matters concerning the state, he averred that he will execute his duties in the fairest manner possible.

Speaking on the Agyapa Deal, the Attorney General-designate also indicated that former Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo was never against the Agyapa Royalties deal.

“I stand in all respect with what Madam Gloria Akuffo did in respect of the Agyapa Royalties transaction. I am not opposed at all to anything she did. Secondly, I am indicating for the record that the former Attorney General [Gloria Akuffo] was never opposed to the transaction and that is clear in all the documents available to me.”
