NPP to release flagbearer aspirant guidelines soon- John Boadu

General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has indicated its intention to release a new guideline for the flagbearer aspirants soon.

Speaking in an interview, the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, who disclosed this intimated that,;the move has become necessary due to the recent scramble among cabinet ministers to succeed;President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after his second term in government.

Mr. John Boadu, revealed that the Executive Committee will meet over the issue later this month. He further noted the party is currently drafting a proposal to facilitate the National Executive Committee’s work. flagbearer

“Very soon, we will go to our National Executive Committee, we want a very strong statement from the committee,;beyond even that. So, I am putting forward some proposal to the national steering committee quickly by this month;we will be at NEC meeting to fashion out guidance to allow government’s work to go on.”

Speaking on the recent campaigns for some members of the party, he averred that it was a distraction to the governance process. He was of the view that it is unnecessary destruction also to the regular party selection process. This, he indicated, is because the constitution of the party states that, anytime they are in government they elect their Presidential candidate not later than 11 months to the Presidential elections.

“What it means is that, technically the election of our presidential candidate can be done in January 2024. So, if you start campaigning from now the obvious thing that will happen is the destruction of government programs. If we are not mindful of these things,;what it means is that for the next three years government’s activities and President’s actions are going to be distracted;by these needless water testers.”

Sanctions will be meted out to faulters

He further cautioned that, the party will not hesitate to sanction those who would flout the measures. He stated that punitive measures from the party will be laid out to those who continue with these activities despite the calls for them to bring it to a halt. flagbearer

“What it means is that, it will get them to understand that there is no point in testing waters now by their assignees or themselves or whoever.

“There will be very punitive sanctions if one decides to set such a measure. President in in his capacity as the President of Ghana has made it clear he finds it [the campaign activities] to be distracting. He said he will not hesitate in getting any of them out of his government so that they can concentrate on their ambitions.”

However, he said something could be done about the campaign actions as against an earlier claim by the party chairman, Freddie Blay, that nothing could be done about it.

“The danger involved is that, if we do not put a stop to it, we may have other organizations or political parties who do not wish us well trying to also sew seed of scold amongst.”
