The reigning Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) ‘Artiste of the Year’, Kuami Eugene has disclosed that he aspires to be a billionaire like Dr. Kwaku Oteng.

This follows when he was asked why he didn’t charge Dr. Kwaku Oteng for being an ambassador for his ‘Adonko X next level’. The ‘Angela’ hitmaker answering averred that Dr. Kwaku Oteng has been of great help to society, especially the unemployed youth.

According to Eugene, he is touched by such acts, therefore in return, he decided not to name any price when Dr. Kwaku Oteng contacted him for the ambassadorial deal. However, Eugene was quick to add that aside from the Range Rover velar he received from Dr. Kwaku Oteng, he was duly paid for his ambassadorial work.

“What Dr. Kwaku Oteng does, you can tell is a lot… He is giving jobs to a lot of youth out there and that means a lot to me as a young person. I am aspiring to be a billionaire like Dr. Kwaku Oteng one day. So, when he came to me, I was like he should just name a price he wants to give me because the job is more important to me than the money. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t pay me; he did pay me even before the Velar”.

Kuami Eugene advises other artists to stick to their bargaining strategy

Kuami Eugene emphasized that his decision not to charge Dr.Kwaku Oteng shouldn’t affect other artists’ bargaining prowess. He also disclosed that he charged all the other brands he worked with, but Dr. Kwaku’s deal was exceptional just because of what he does for society.

“Well, my decisions shouldn’t change people’s bargaining powers. This is my strategy, so, you can decide to go your own way. I didn’t do that with Itel or any other brand I’ve worked for. Most of them were strictly business from the onset.

“But I’ve been a part of the man’s [Dr. Kwaku Oteng] life and I’ve seen what he has done. I’ve played a few shows for him even before we met for the first time. So, I was like I can use my popularity to also help him, so he can do more for the community. So, I won’t go charging a price of a Range Rover.  I’m not saying change your strategy for mine. But this is my strategy when I meet someone who is doing exploits in the neighborhood and putting foods on the table of people”.

Kuami Eugene reacts to critics over his dressing style

Meanwhile, a section of Ghanaians have constantly criticized Kuami Eugene’s style of dressing. Reacting to this, Kuami Eugene averred there are serious social issues that need to be attended to and talked about. Therefore, his style of dressing shouldn’t be “anyone’s problem”. He also mentioned that he is more concerned about helping society than his style of dressing.

“There are bigger problems in this country that we need to look at. I mean, we have a huge number of unemployed people, people are being killed, ‘galamsey’ is going on, there are a lot of problems going on and if Kuami’s dressing is a problem then it’s just funny… My focus honestly is on how I can impact the community and how my name is going to be mentioned ten years from now. I believe as a young person that is what I should be concerned about and not what someone thinks about my dressing”.

Speaking about his new song, ‘Dollar on you’ he said the relationship-based song talks about what each person in a relationship can bring to the table. Explaining why he didn’t feature any artist on the song he said that he has recorded several featured songs and that “it’s been a while since Ghanaians had a ‘Rockstar’ moment”.
