Enhance Patrolling- Adam Bonaa to Ghana Police Service

Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa

Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa has suggested to the Ghana Police Service to enhance its patrolling activities in the country.

Speaking on the current spate of robbery in the country, he called for these measures to be taken by the service to help reduce its occurence.

He also indicated that patrolling in various areas must take place so that when robbers perpetrate such crimes, they can be apprehended. He added that it will be one of the solutions to help solve the issue of robbery in the country.

“Crime fighting has to do with perception. When the criminals perceive the police to be fighting crime, they usually go aground. When the citizens perceive the police and the law enforcement agencies to be fighting crime, they tend to help.”

Moreover, he was of the view that there is no police visibility in the country. He said previously when there was much visibility, crime rate was reduced in the country.

“As we speak, you go into town and all you see is Police officers stopping unregistered vehicles. And I say that that is not all police work, we need to see some reshuffle of the Ghana police.”

Adam Bonaa

Mr. Bonaa disclosed that the nation is getting to a point where if there is no intervention in the series of robberies and assault across the country, citizens will begin to take the law into their hands. This, he said, they will do by arming themselves with weapons.

Motorcycles must be properly registered

Touching on the current trend of robbers using motorbikes to assault people, Mr Bonaa urged that all the motorcycles in the country must be registered for their proper identification.

“These are violent crimes going on in the country and nobody knows when this is going to stop. So long as there is money in the hands pf people these things are going to continue till probably the authorities find the solution to it.

“As far as I am concerned, how these motorbikes come into the country and their means, it starts to reason why as a state we haven’t put in enough measures to ensure that all of these bikes are registered.”

Adam Bonaa

He averred that most of the motorcycles used in perpetrating these acts are stolen and not registered to anyone.

The security analyst posited that the current incidents shows how criminals have figured out the security personnel do not have what it takes to arrest them. He revealed that traveling by road has become dangerous since one cannot tell when they will be attacked by these bandits.

“And so, they can come so close to government properties, so close to the Police headquarters. They know CCTV’s are not working, they know government officials supposed to be checking on these activities are also not working and we have been left to our fate.”

Adam Bonaa

He, therefore, called on the the security agencies especially the National Security to do more in fighting crime and gathering intelligence to help solve the issue of robbery.
