Akwaboah debunks claims of being sponsored by ‘baby mama’

Kwabena Akwaboah Junior, popularly known as Akwaboah, has revealed that gospel musicians aren't united as they make it seem in the eye of the public.

Ghanaian singer and producer, Akwaboah.

Ace Highlife/Hiplife singer, Akwaboah has debunked claims of being financially supported by his estranged ‘baby mama’.

It can be recalled that the mother of Akwaboah’s daughter came out to level an accusation against him after their relationship went sour.  She accused him of dumping her after she has invested her money into his craft and making him who he is today.

Reacting to the claims, Akwaboah stated that his ‘baby mama’ has not contributed a penny to his career but he believes she made those allegations out of pain. He also revealed that there were reports that his ‘baby mama’ cursed him for refusing to accept the fact that she has invested in him.

However, he disclosed that he has resolved the case with her and now they are cool and communicate effectively without any grudges.

“I really don’t like finding myself in certain uncomfortable situations. Honestly, before God and man, I don’t take money from my baby mama to support myself. I haven’t taken any money from any woman or no woman has ever invested in me. I think it’s normal for people to make claims. I called her to ask about it and she said her part and even there were reports that she cursed me. I asked her about that too and she also gave her story about it. But right now, we are cool, we talk and everything is fine”.

That aside, it is worth noting that the Ghana music industry has taken a different turn as artists try to blend Highlife with foreign genres just to penetrate the international market.

Touching on this, Akwaboah revealed that he isn’t recording songs that follow a certain trend at the moment like other musicians are doing. According to him, he likes to make evergreen songs so that even in his old age, he will still enjoy his songs.

He further advised that an artist must be able to do danceable tunes as well as calm tunes and to him, he does both because his fans cannot be used to one style all the time.

In the same vein, Akwaboah also mentioned that his father, Akwaboah Snr. has always been his mentor since the beginning of his music career.

According to Akwaboah, his father has been the main inspiration behind his music career, therefore, he had to feature him on some of his songs to honor the legend.

Akwaboah also mentioned that mostly, when musicians are aging, Ghanaians turn to tag them as outmoded musicians, and as a result, they stop patronizing their craft. He further stated that he has more to learn from his father. Akwaboah explained that even though he has fame, he feels he cannot compare himself to his father.

That notwithstanding, comparing his father’s era to his, Akwaboah stated that he hasn’t been able to live up to his father’s legacy even to date. He described his father as the best among his peers in his prime and still wears the crown.

“I played a song to him on my album and within a few minutes, he was able to tell me what was wrong with the whole album. With such a personality in my life, I can never say his time is passed because he has been a blessing to me”.

Nonetheless, Akwaboah suggested that it would have been a great deal if the ‘new school’ musicians, run back to the old legends to learn a thing or two from them rather than ignoring them, especially when the ‘new school’ musicians are at their peak.
