“I have noticed with delight, the resolute and firmness of the Regional Minister, Honourable Henry Quartey, in the decongestion exercise in Accra. Honourable Minister, your combination of tenacity, tact and diplomacy in ensuring sanity in Accra needs much support and appreciation from all. I want to assure you that all well-meaning Ga -Dangmes rally solidly behind you. Continue with the good work unperturbed. You have our unflinching support.”

King Tsuru

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II further said a call to national duty is a call to serve in the interest of the people. He added that sometimes the people the Minister is serving will bring obstacles his way but further encouraged him to not let that distract him.

“Be assured that what is right is always right. We appreciate your efforts and we are ready to assist you in any way to ensure the desired result of bringing sanity and beautification of Accra are achieved.

“On my behalf and on behalf of the good people of Ga-Dangme, we say Ayekoo, Tsulor Kpakpa. We are very proud of you, a great son of Ga-Dangme and a servant of the people. May the blessings of the Good Lord, the creator of the Heaven and earth and the blessings of our forefathers empower and protect you always.”

Scrap dealers appeal for alternative space

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Scrap Dealers Association is appealing to the government to offer its members an alternative space for doing business after structures in the area were demolished on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

The scrap dealers at the Agbogbloshie market were evicted and their properties demolished after failing to abide by a July 1 deadline for them to relocate to Adjen Kotoko in the Ga West Municipality.

Addressing the media, the Deputy General Secretary of the Greater Accra Scrap Dealers Association, Salifu Salim said the government must come to their aid.

“We cannot fight the government. We only want them to come to our aid. If only the government can provide a place that can accommodate all of us, we are willing to move.

“We do not necessarily have a preferred location. We believe that due to the nature of our business, we will get patronage, irrespective of where we go.”

Salifu Salim

The Greater Accra Regional Minister had earlier asked onion traders and others at Agbogbloshie to move to Adjen Kotoku.

Efforts were subsequently taken to ensure that the traders were relocated to Adjen Kotoku by the July 1, 2021, deadline.
