The national youth organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has disclosed that the Akufo-Addo led administration has failed in delivering on its promises made to Ghanaians.

According to him, government, during the electioneering season promised to improve on the living conditions of the yout, which it has failed to do.

He made this revelation during the handing over of a petition to the President at the Jubilee House as part of its protest to demand for accountability from government.

Deputy Chief of staff responsible for operations at the Jubilee House received the petition on behalf of the President.

“We believe that the recent happenings in the country are nothing to write home about. The youth of Ghana has decided that today we will demonstrate and show our displeasure to what is happening and call on the President that, the challenges that confront many young people in this country as a whole should be fixed.

“Needless to say, these were the very teething issues you campaigned on and promised to deliver. Your Excellency, without mincing words, it is heart wrenching to say that, your government has so far delivered the antithesis of almost all what you promised Ghanaians. If you objectively and sincerely look back and reflect on the state of the country… you have eroded almost all the strides our country has made. If our country was a clock, you would have rolled it anti clockwise”.

Additionally, the NDC youth organiser explained that although the country was riddled with some age long challenges, it has “increased unimaginably”.

Fixing the country

Touching on the recent calls for the country to be fixed, the NDC youth organiser concerted to the fact that, “our country needs fixing and there cannot be any good time to fix it than now”.

Mr Addo also noted that the nonchalance exhibited by government to “life-threatening challenges” will not augur well for the country.

“Instead of teaming up with those who have taken inspiration from your ethics to be citizens and not spectators to fix the country; the government is surprising others to calls asking for the fixing of our beloved country.

“Those crusading for the country to be fixed have become enemies of your government as they are either being intimidated, harassed or killed by your militia. It is not out of place to point out to you that though Ghanaians signed a social contract to resolve their problems, the government has become an insurmountable challenge that they are struggling to resolve. What we are saying is that, your government has become a problem for Ghanaians to deal with”.

Leadership in government versus Insecurity

Further bemoaning the plight Ghanaians, Mr Addo revealed that there is palpable apprehension among leadership in government.

According to him, the leadership currently provided by government is one of “let’s finish everything today because there is no tomorrow”.

“Objective minds in our nation and those in your government are whispering on corridors; having growing apprehension about where you are leading this country. There is no hope for the youth under your stewardship. The very people you promised to protect are the ones being beaten and killed daily by thugs recruited into our security services.

“Those you promised jobs have either been laid off, lost their investment or have not been employed at all. You have failed to build a just society. Today, more than ever before in the history of the construction of our state, access to the few opportunities is solely based on   possession of an NPP card”.
