Nigerian Athlete, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has shared a footage of himself washing his jersey at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics and has revealed that the jersey is the "only" one that was given to him to wear throughout the competition.

Nigerian Athlete, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has shared a footage of himself washing his jersey at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics and has revealed that the jersey is the “only” one that was given to him to wear throughout the competition.

Despite leading Nigeria to the last round of the shot-put event at the Olympics, where he stands a chance to win a Gold medal this Thursday, August 5, Enekwechi disclosed in a TikTok video shared on his Instagram page that he only has one jersey and has to wash it at night in preparation for the next game.

It can be recalled that earlier on Tuesday, the 28-year-old Nigerian-American has secured one of the non-automatic qualifying spots for the final after clinching the fourth position in group B. He ranked seventh on the overall qualification log after hitting the mark of 21.16 meters.

Meanwhile, Nigerian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics have been complaining about logistical mishaps from the country’s sports administrators.

Blessing Okagbare had earlier slammed the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) after 10 of her colleagues were disqualified for not meeting the Olympics doping tests requirement.

Chimezie Metu, D’Tigers power forward, also blamed the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and sports ministry for the country’s woeful performance at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

That notwithstanding, ever since the video went viral, social media have been buzzing with several mixed reactions with several people backlashing the government.

@Mac_polo: Nigeria second name is disgrace

@Zeus: A confirmation that the Country that you represent is a failed state. Those days, representatives in a competition give shirts out after a competition, but a country Like Nigeria thrives on Lies and nothing has been done for excellence, The old men in Power have no idea and are not in touch with the masses. They rule the country by tyranny and even this does not affect the dictator. The masses need a new orientation that the power belongs to them and they can rush criminals out of power with all their battalion

@Chika_ike: They are busy paying bandit and Boko Haram… Aimless government. A country that poisons her future with nepotism.

@Glevita_: The problem is not only Abba Kyari, the whole leadership in the Nigerian system is corrupt.

@Chuku_abass: Shameless nation called Nigeria, now that “lazy youths” are ready they’re being setback because of the failed system. Sorry to everyone who was born here

@Edwardgoodness: It’s called the Nigerian experience… Goodluck bro

@Tarina_boye: Someone was given enough funds for multiple jerseys yet this was not done. Nigeria is so deep-rooted in corruption that even a change from Fulani to a saner tribe will not curb this blood-infested disease called corruption in Nigeria. (Well, Fulanis’ have an agenda that they are not ashamed or afraid to hide so I am not discriminatory in any way) With few spots in the Olympics, we are about to bag our third medal which shows that we have incredible men and women with great talent with failed leadership. Terrible!

@CollapsedNigeria That one you wear yourself. They will debit you from your account. The Zoo Republic is a legend of shame.

@Manofintegrity Too bad. Nigerians are suffering everywhere

@Emmanuel_cleric: Sad men! Just last night while watching the news in France and saw a small documentary on innovation in sport’s shoes, and they were more or less called ‘Doped shoes’ for the extra boost it gives to you while competing and I was reflecting on the possibility of Nigeria being able to provide these newly developed shoes (Nike has them, NB has them too) to the Nigerian athletes as they cost at least 300 euros. To now see this competitor with only one jersey for the entire Olympic leaves me jaw-shackled. Just then, why bother to join the competition as a country.

@slickbash: Maybe they never imagined he would make it this far…Cheers Bro
