Emmy Awards Move Outdoors Amid Rising COVID Cases

Television Academy, Emmy has announced that the 73rd Emmy Awards will now take place at Los Angeles Live's Event Deck, directly behind the Microsoft Theater, where the event had intended to be held as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Los Angeles.

Television Academy, Emmy has announced that the 73rd Emmy Awards will now take place at Los Angeles Live’s Event Deck, directly behind the Microsoft Theater, where the event had been intended to hold as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Los Angeles.

All the ceremonies, including the separate Creative Arts Emmys, will be held on the Event Deck. This new “indoor/outdoor” setting is said to provide better opportunities for “socially distanced audience seating”. The change comes just days after it was confirmed that this year’s awards ceremony will have a limited red-carpet show.

Well, the changes don’t stop there, as there are also further limits on the number of nominees allowed to attend the event, despite invitations having already been mailed out. This means that nominated teams of three or more are limited to no more than four tickets per nomination.

The Academy in a statement said:

“Following discussions with health and safety experts for Los Angeles County and the Emmy ceremonies, the Television Academy has concluded that we must further limit the number of nominees attending the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 11 and 12 as well as the 73rd Emmys on Sept. 19.

“Unfortunately, this means not all nominees will be able to attend this year’s awards. We recommend those on nominated teams coordinate between themselves and identify how they will allow their four tickets before they RSVP”.

The statement concluded: “The health and safety of our nominees is of paramount importance. Conversations are ongoing, and we will provide further information as it is available. The Television Academy appreciates everyone’s understanding as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 delta variant”.

Another major change

Another change has to do with the host of the event. For this year’s show, Cedric the Entertainer, the popular comedian, and star of the CBS sitcom “The Neighborhood” will take over from Jimmy Kimmel.

Cedric the Entertainer, who is already set to host this year’s Emmys ceremony in a statement noted:

“Since I was a little boy huddled up next to my grandmother, television has always been my reliable friend, so it is an enormous honor for me to host this year’s Emmy Awards.

“Throughout the roller-coaster of a year that we have all lived through, television has helped us stay connected as a society like never before. It not only entertained us, but as it always has, it helped to open our eyes, educate us, and hopefully brought about a better understanding of who we are as a people. I can’t wait to take the stage to celebrate all of the great shows and performances that made us laugh, cry, dance, and sing over the past year”.

It can be recalled that last year’s Emmy Awards ceremony was unable to take place in person due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the memorable event took place virtually and it was the first awards show to take place in the wake of a global pandemic.

Fans have been highly anticipating of this year’s show. This is because, even though the show had its own share of downsides last year, the Emmys still showed what an awards ceremony could look like in this new world.
