Parts of Accra to experience water supply cuts- GWCL

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced a cut in water supply to some particular areas in Accra in the Greater Accra Region.

According to GWCL, the cut which will commence today, Monday September 13, 2021 is to enable engineering works to take place.

“There will be an interruption of water supply to the western part of the Greater Accra from Monday the 13th to Friday to the 17th of September, 2021”.

GWCL

A statement issued by the company indicated that engineers are scheduled to fix some faulty valves on the main 900 mm transmission pipelines, which impedes water flow and causes serious challenges in the distribution lines, hence the temporal disruption of water supply to the areas listed.

The GWCL further disclosed that the period would also be used to address leakages within the supply area, causing the water company to lose several volumes of water daily and, consequently, have a serious impact on the volumes available for consumption.

“GWCL engineers will also take advantage of the shutdown to install some electromagnetic meters at the Weija Treatment Plant, which will help in the company’s drive to reduce Non-Revenue Water”.

Due to the upcoming work, the company has therefore urged individuals in Accra, “especially consumers in the western part of the metropolis, to store enough water for consumption during the period of the shut-down”.

The GWCL also indicated that the government’s Covid-19 free water reservoirs would be filled with water tankers to enable consumers to fetch for free. It also noted that essential service providers like the hospitals and schools will also be served with water tankers.

The Water company further appealed to the general public especially those in the affected areas to bear with them as they undertake the engineering works to provide them with water.

“Management of the GWCL deeply regrets the inconvenience that the interruption will cause but pleads with the consumer to bear with the situation since the repair works are meant at improving on the services to the public”.
