I was taken out of context on “Do or Die” comment- John Mahama

Former President, John Dramani Mahama

Former President and the 2020 election flagbearer for the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, has indicated that he welcomes an investigation into claims he made regarding the 2020 election results and the Electoral Commission’s conduct.

This is as a result of an allegation Mr. Mahama made that there was one million vote fraud in the 2020 elections done to favor President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“I welcome an investigation because that is what I like. If they say they want an investigation, then let’s go in for the investigation. But I don’t know if the Police are the best to do that. I don’t know what the Police are going to investigate”.

John Mahama

The former President called for an independent enquiry into the issue and suggested that ECOWAS be invited to probe the issue better.

“Let’s go to ECOWAS. ECOWAS has an electoral body, let them bring some people to come and do an investigation into Ghana’s election. I will testify. I will swear an oath and testify and not run away from the witness box”.

I don’t hate Jean Mensah-led EC

John Mahama disclaimed assertions that he hated the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC) due to his criticisms. He explained that he doesn’t hate the electoral Commission or Jean Mensah but wants to ensure they are the number one Electoral Commission in the whole of West Africa.

“When Afari Gyan and Charlotte Osei were there, we were the leading Electoral commission. When I went to Liberia for election monitoring, after first round there was confusion, ECOWAS sent a technical team led by Charlotte Osei to come and sort out the Liberian EC problems and she came and sorted it out”.

I still Insist 2020 Elections wasn’t clean, transparent and fair- John Mahama

Ex President Mahama noted that everything he says is to make the Electoral Commission sit it up. He urged the EC to redeem itself in 2024.

“So, when I am pointing out their mistakes, it is not that I hate them.”

John Mahama

Explaining the reason for his criticisms against the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensah, he averred that it was her fault all these criticisms were coming in. He said it wouldn’t have been so if she had stood in the witness box to testify in court during the election petition.

“Look at her predecessor Afari Gyan. He stood in the witness box for two solid days going through all the processes required during the 2016 election petition”.

Touching on the deputy Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Bossman Asare’s reply to his criticisms, he averred that it is Jean Mensah’s ultimate responsibility to reply to his criticism and not her deputy. John Mahama suggested that the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensah must ensure that the right thing is done and not to be left in the hands of her deputies.

“We don’t have hope in him, the person we have hope in Jean Mensah because she is the chair. I know he is an NPP man. We know his track record in University of Ghana before he became commissioner, he was an NPP patron. So, as for him we don’t talk about him”.
