Nigerian artiste, Teniola Apata, professionally known as Teni, has dismissed several reports which suggested that there was an attempt to kidnap her during Sunday’s live concert she headlined at Buguma, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Clearing the air, Teni took to her Instagram story to refute claims that it was a kidnap attempt. According to the singer, the whole incident happened so fast and claimed that there was however “no attempt to kidnap” her.
Revealing the cause of the scare, the ‘Case’ crooner noted that a fight broke out and it led to a stampede.
“We don’t know what really caused the fight but fight started out backstage and that led to a stampede. Myself and entire team are safe and back home now. Thanks for the calls and messages. This could have turned out to be a different story entirely but I’m grateful to God”.

Police investigates Rivers Incident
Police in Rivers state also dismissed reports which alleged that there was an attempt to kidnap Teni. Rivers Police Command, under Commissioner of Police, CP, Friday Eboka, clarified that the gunshots heard during the commotion at the event were fired by the police and not suspected kidnappers.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Grace Iringi-Koko confirmed the incident, but said Teni was rescued unhurt.
Grace Iringe-Koko, who is the acting spokesman for the state police command said: “Contrary to what many thought was an attempt to kidnap the singer, the gunshots heard at the background were from security operatives who were shooting in the air to repel some disgruntled element who were throwing objects at Teni while on stage.
“Teni was invited for a carnival where she was performing. Then some miscreants started throwing stones and all that. But the police and other security agencies were on ground to ensure nothing happened”.

Iringe-Koko, however, stated that investigations have been launched to bring the perpetrators to book over the incident which sent social media buzzing with attempted kidnap of the ‘Your case’ crooner.
“The command has started an investigation into the incident to ascertain what really happened. The police division there in Buguma has been mandated to fish out those behind the attack. We will ensure they are brought to book”.

A video trending showed moments the music star was performing one of her hit singles, ‘Super Power’, when suspected hoodlums pelt the artiste with bottles while she sang, a situation that attracted the attention of security operatives. Then sudden sporadic gunshots in the premises resulted in stampede as the crowd of audience run to safety.
Sources claimed that there was an attempt to abduct the singer whose was promptly shielded and led off the state as the crowd of fans scamper for safety in the chaos. According to reports, the carnival was going on smoothly before the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, the show organizers are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
