Expert Expresses Disappointment In Nestle's Response Over Coagulated Milk

Coagulated Ideal milk

Branding expert, Stephen Nana Osei Boadi, has expressed disappointment over what he describes as a lousy job done by Nestle Ghana in reassuring customers of their protection after some safety concerns regarding coagulated milk was raised.

Speaking on the response by Nestle and the FDA, he described it as a delayed response considering the period the issue was raised.

“Elsewhere, you would have the CEO and the corporate affairs manager actively out there assuring the public that it is safe and we apologize for the problems and are recalling the product. [They will]assure people by communicating clearly about batches that have these issues”.

Stephen Nana Osei Boadi

According to Stephen Boadi, this wasn’t done wide enough and was done late by the FDA and Nestle and has resulted in the public outcry. He stated that even till date, whatever Nestle especially is communicating is not wide enough.

The Branding Expert intimated that Nestle is not investing in assuring the public of their safety and it’s not assuring the public that it is taking steps to address the issue as well.

“And it’s because in Ghana, they don’t see it that this could end up hurting the brand because ‘milk deir enoa ne ideal’ so people will still patronize it. And they are going on the back of that and acting rather lousy”.

Stephen Nana Osei Boadi

Stephen Boadi’s comments stem from some consumers of ideal and carnation milk complaining about buying tins of coagulated milk which has resulted in a recall of some batches of the product by the Food and Drugs Board Authority (FDA).

Meanwhile, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has assured the public of its commitment to monitor and ensure that all the coagulated milk leave the market.

The Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at the FDA, Joseph Beny, speaking on the issue stated that his outfit is monitoring the withdrawals and will ensure that the fault in production of those two products is not experienced again.

“We are not over yet. We are also investigating as well and monitoring the recalls and will do this for a while until we are able to establish that with what they are manufacturing, they are no longer producing that particular kind of milk and then we may be able to bring closure to this somewhere along the line based on what we get from Nestle”.

Joseph Beny

He indicated that the FDA has to also check how much of the coagulated milk Nestle is able to recall because they know the quantity they produced. This, he said, will enable the Authority know how much of the milk has been returned from the market and then gradually the FDA will be able to get to the end of the issue.

Prior to this, the FDA gave an assurance to the general public that the coagulated milk products from Nestlé Ghana on sale on the market do not pose any health risk.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 10, 2022 the Authority revealed that it has undertaken a comprehensive regulatory review to ensure that any safety risks to consumers were immediately detected and dealt with.
