According to John Mahama, these burdensome taxes government is introducing will erode business capital, especially at a time when Government has crowded out the private sector’s access to credit by its voracious appetite for borrowing.

John Mahama stated that the Ghanaian economy has been collapsed by President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Vice- President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

“The debt crisis, for which there are very few tangible projects to show for and worsening economic hardship of Ghanaians amply demonstrate the negative impact of a collapsed economy.”

The former President made these comments after joining the NDC Members of Parliament for the closing session of their 2022 Caucus Retreat.

“It was a good session as they resume sittings, and after a year in which they demonstrated their commitment to pushing the desires and interests of their constituents and Ghanaians generally in the House.”

John Mahama posited the NDC MPs and the leadership have done very well in holding government accountable and on behalf of the general membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and expressed his appreciation to them. large

“It is important for MPs, as stressed by other speakers and the leadership, to always remember that they are representing the people and are also in the House to represent the NDC.”

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah large
Be Civil

Also commenting on conduct as Parliament resumes, the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, called on the lawmakers especially the opposition legislators to be civil and not to resort to fisticuffs in resolving issues in Parliament.

The Ofoase Ayirebi Lawmaker in a statement noted that the image of Ghana was badly damaged following the fights in the House during the first session of the 8th Parliament and efforts must be made in redeeming it.

Oppong Nkrumah further stated the Majority in Parliament will re-engage the Minority on issues the two sides have disagreements on, in order to reach a consensus.

“The past few months in Ghana’s parliamentary history will go down as some of the most embarrassing. The best example of West African democracy was drowned in regular examples of unruly behavior by honorable members of the house simply because we disagreed on issues.”

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

Oppong Nkrumah mentioned that the chamber from where Parliament was previously praised for its respect for the rule of law and peaceful civil conduct even when it disagreed, is now lampooned as being the example of failed leaders.
