Former Mayor of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Musah Superior, has called for the replacement of the leadership of the New Patriotic Party.

According to him, legislators on the majority side are to be blamed for the rejection of the Electronic Transaction Levy by the Minority Members in Parliament. Musah Superior explained that the struggles that the government is going through to pass the e-levy is as a result of the party’s performance in the 2020 polls.

The Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission (FC), recounted that the reason for the party’s victory during the 2016 polls is as a result of the collaborative and massive campaigns undertaken which occasioned their win of 169 out of the 275 parliamentary seats.

He noted that some years down the line, the number of parliamentary seats for the NPP after the 2016 election have dwindled, leading to a hung in parliament with both sides having 137 plus an independent candidate leaning to the majority side.

‘‘They are disappointing and should be replaced. Our membership in Parliament reduced from 169 to 137. They have made us lose 32 parliamentary seats. Today, we want to pass an important financial document to get more money to do good things for our country, our effort is deliberately been frustrated by this incompetent bunch of people. We shouldn’t accept that; of course, if we had 169 members, the e-levy discussion would have been history”.

Responsibilities of the General Secretary

Musah Superior indicated that the General Secretary of any political is the chief executive of the party and for that matter everything about the party revolves around him. He noted that his job is not only to “win elections” but to look after the party after it has won elections.

“The position of the General Secretary is not for serving special groups of the NPP. The Office of the General Sectary is open and is for everybody and if you think you have the courage, vision and the stamina, of course you can contest for it. I am contesting for it and I am confident that in July, the NPP delegates will give me the mandate and I will deliver to make NPP win the 2024 election”.

Musah Superior

The Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission noted that if the General Secretary reckons his job is only to win elections, then he must leave the job because he doesn’t even understand the job properly.

“We’ve got to win elections and after elections we look after the party because we are going to call the party after the 4 years. If you leave the party unattended after 4 years, you are going to meet the party operating at half strength”.

Musah Superior

Lauding the efforts of the NPP, Musah Superior urged the NPP not to cave and leave the governance of the country to the NDC. He expressed the need to ensure a strong support base of the party nationwide to ensure the NPP wins the 2024 election.

Musah Superior emphasized that for the party to retain power, there should be a change in the party’s leadership.
