WeComm, an Agri-media marketing agency and consultancy limited, has launched the “Nserewa Project,” an initiative that offers Ghanaians the opportunity to sponsor a farmer and receive rewards after nine months.

The General Manager of WeComm Agri-Media and Consultancy Limited, Mr. Kojo Akoto Boateng, noted at the launch that the “Nserewa project” would bring people together to sponsor soya, maize, and rice farming.

Mr. Boateng disclosed that the Project would run from March to November 2022 and “would involve planting, harvesting, milling, bagging and putting the produce on the market to create value for farmers, sponsors, and the Ghanaian market.  Mr. Boateng disclosed that the project’s sponsorship is valued at GHS 2,022 for an acre, the least one could sponsor for rewards after nine months.

“This project would give farmers the support they need. To sponsor an acre of rice for instance, you need GHS 2,022. This would go into buying seed, fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides to give farmers in addition to insurance to grow rice. The sponsors of the project get rewards, so whatever rice that we get as our yield, you get rewarded at the end of the production period of 9 months. The project would contribute to food security by ensuring all-year-round food production and distribution. All Ghanaian investors are therefore encouraged to support made-in-Ghana products by sponsoring the project to invest in the country’s economy.”

Mr. Boateng

Partnered by Newage Agric Solutions Limited, Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool (GAIP), Agro Africa, and the Chi-Gaba Project, the “Nserewa Project” would provide farmers with the needed support in farming rice, maize and soya.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Martin Tettey Nartey, the General Manager of Newage Agric Solutions, in his remarks, said the “Nserewa Project” is a unique contract farming initiative that his organization is proud of to be associated with.

The project ensures farmers are provided with the necessary inputs and technical assistance for the farming season. After harvest, farmers’ payback for the inputs in kind, thus, with a portion of their farm produce. Currently, the project is working with about 10,000 farmers on maize, rice, and soya production in Weta, Asutuare, Kpoglo, and Golokwati with a total land size of approximately 1,200 acres so far. All farms under the project are fully insured with Ghana Agricultural Insurance Project (GAIP). The United Bank for Africa is the banking partner for Soya and Maize project, whereas the Stanbic Bank is the banking partner for the Rice Project.

It can be recalled some farmers lamented to the Vaultz News about the rise in farm inputs not long after Ghanaians saw fuel prices skyrocketing, and this project looks like a dream come true for most of them. Some farmer advocates have praised the initiative and called on other firms to roll out projects that would support farmers like this.
