NADMO in touch with meteorological agency for weather updates- George Ayisi

Communications Director of NADMO, George Ayisi

The Communications Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), George Ayisi, has indicated that his outfit will attend to the tidal wave victims, especially those in Ketu South in the Volta Region.

George Ayisi confirmed that NADMO has been made aware of the number of displaced persons who have been hit by the wave in the Volta Region and as such they are working on attending to them immediately.

Speaking on the timeline for the relief items to be delivered following complaints by the officials in the region, George Ayisi stated that he wasn’t sure of the exact time the items will be delivered to the Volta Region victims. “I can’t give you that tomorrow it is going or it will even go today. We need to get the update and then we can give you the specific day that the items are moving.”

George Ayisi, therefore, made known of the authority’s efforts to ensure relief items are sent over as soon as possible.

“They have brought their assessment report and the team is working round the clock to get their relief items. My Director General went to Sege and Shama and as she is back, the Volta Region relief items will be worked on.”

Touching on why the distribution of the relief items have taken so long despite the residents being displaced, he stated that NADMO has to assess and identify the relevant items needed in order to attend to the displaced households.

“We need to send them what we have. Every part of the three major affected areas must get some relief items and so, we are looking at the numbers. Once the Sege one is going on, we will look at the numbers. The Sege one, the numbers were huge, then Shama and now the Volta Region. We understand that it’s been 5 days but we need to work meticulously to get what they need so we send to them.”

NADMO has to manage stock

According to the Communications Director, NADMO has to manage the stock available and not push all out to one place hence, the delay in attending to some of the affected areas. “We will get you the specific items and when its going to go.”

“Don’t forget that the Volta Region, just last November there was a serious issue so, we are not going to ignore them. We will move there and send some relief to support them. I agree with you that it has delayed but it’s better late than never.”

George Ayisi assured that NADMO will definitely attend to the victims in the Volta Region since they have been able to attend to the first two affected areas which is, Sege and Shama.

On the sea defense wall project, George Ayisi intimated that any information as regards that should be directed to the Ministry in charge since his outfit doesn’t have any relation with that. He added that he is not privy to when the project will commence and be completed.

George Ayisi’s comments followed the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu South, Maxwell Lugudor’s revelation that they were waiting for the Volta Regional NADMO office to supply them with relief items. Mr Lugudo revealed that 202 residents of Agavedzi and Salakope in the Ketu South Municipality were displaced following tidal waves that swept away their homes on Monday April 4, 2022. Mr Lugudo revealed that the district is currently looking for shelter for the displaced victims as of now.
