King Promise has shared that he went all out in shooting the video for his latest song, 'Slow Down', because he is determined to realize global domination.

Ghanaian highlife artiste, King Promise

Ghanaian musical artist, King Promise, has averred that he is oblivious to why he doesn’t win awards at the VGMAs, even after receiving several nominations.

According to the artist, he receives more international awards than he does locally. Moreover, he pointed out that there haven’t been any issues between the VGMA board and him, and further explained that if there was indeed an issue, he wouldn’t have been on stage performing on the night of the event.

“I don’t know if it’s me or it’s the system or whatever. Maybe people think that I’m not close to a lot of people; I’m always in my corner. I don’t know if that’s the issue. I am still looking for what the issue is because even I don’t know. Honestly, I have no issue with the VGMA. Obviously, it just went how it went. At the end of the day, all, I’m doing is making my music and pushing the agenda, which is Ghana music to the world”.

King Promise

King Promise, who believes that his international laurels should reflect in his home country, noted that not winning the local awards sometimes puts a shadow on all other things.

“I’m Ghanaian. When I travel, and I’m doing tours or stuff, it’s very big. I win awards like Best African Artiste in Nigeria; I’m nominated for awards and stuff. And then when you come back home, it’s kind of funny. If you are taking it to the world, you have to own your land as well. So obviously, it does matter to me. But it’s not the main thing I’m working for. However, it gets to a point where it starts to be an issue”.

Meanwhile, the ‘Ginger’ hitmaker has promised to get to the bottom of the issue. He hopes to analyze himself and the system to solve why the awards have stopped coming despite the numerous nominations.

King Promise, after his very first appearance on VGMA, and subsequent win in 2019, has received several nominations but unfortunately went home with no award.

MOBO Gregory Promise Bortey Newman, who is popularly known as King Promise, has said that there is no need to have personal contact with an artist before giving out support to promote the artist.

At the just ended VGMA23, King Promise received four nominations, including a nomination in the Artiste of the Year category.

King Promise Intends to be International

Meanwhile, in a recent interview, King Promise, disclosed that it has always been his intention to be an internationally acclaimed artist. According to the artist, even though he is always being appreciated in other countries, he still enjoys spending more time in Ghana than in any other country.

King Promise posited that the good thing about his international intentions is that, at least he is making an impact globally and they’re accepting it because he is putting in the work.

“The plan has always been to be an international artist and not just be an artist just based in Ghana. I’ve taken it upon myself to keep going and take it to the rest of the world,” King Promise said.
