The Director of Elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has indicated that the Police is ready to provide security during its delegates conference which commences tomorrow, May 27, 2022.

Speaking about the party’s preparation towards the elections tomorrow, he intimated that although it has been tough, the party is poised for a historic and successful regional delegates’ conference.

“So far, venues have been arranged, discussion with the Electoral Commission has been concluded and Ghana Police Service is ready to provide us with the necessary security arrangements.

“Delegates to conference are set. We have all regional executive committee members, all Members of Parliament in the region who are delegates to the conference and all constituency executives [ready]. So, for instance in Greater Accra where we have 34 constituencies, all executives in the 34 are delegates to the conference and run same across the region.”

Evans Nimako

Mr. Nimako disclosed that the delegates’ conference will elect regional party officers to steer the affairs of the party at the regional levels for the next four years.

Ekumfi party members take court action

Meanwhile, five aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Ekumfi constituency, have instituted a court action to stop the Party from conducting its Central Region delegates conference to elect regional executives.

According to the application filed, the action is against Robert Kutin Jnr, the Central Region Chairman of the NPP and five others who constitute the Regional Electoral Committee, charged with the responsibility of organizing the NPP regional elections in the Central Region. The application also names the Electoral Commission’s Cape Coast Regional Director, as the 7th Respondent.

The contention of the aggrieved members of the NPP is that, the regional electoral committee has intentionally and without cause, refused to organize elections for the Ekumfi constituency.

According to the applicants, the basic reason the executives have failed to organize the Ekumfi election is to prevent them from being eligible to exercise their franchise in the impending regional elections, giving that votes from the Ekumfi Constituency have always been crucial in deciding who becomes a regional executive of the party in the Central Region.

According to the affidavit in support of the case filed at the Cape Coast High Court, the applicants are Edward Armah, Ransford Bosomtwe, Albert Ackon, Razak Nurudeen, and Mohammed Iddrisu.
