Private Legal Practitioner and a member of the National Democratic Congress, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, has intimated that payments made to Sir David Adjaye on the architectural design of the national cathedral sounds fishy.
Although government believes it has not erred in not detailing the GH¢32 million to Sir David Adjaye and Associates for consultancy on the National Cathedral in the budget, Lawyer Tamakloe accused government of making these payments to Sir David Adjaye without proper recourse to the law.
The legal practitioner, stated that he could not fathom why payments have been made to the architectural designer though works on the cathedral have not been completed.
“Where did we go wrong as country that we will have to break our own laws to satisfy our family and friends?”

Lawyer Tamakloe averred that he is bit worried about the sole sourcing tender process through which Mr. David Adjaye was awarded the said contract.
“In a letter circulating in the media space and signed by the chief of staff, I notice that the Public Procurement Authority was instructed to allow a sole sourcing contract be granted to Sir David Adjaye which clearly was in sharp contradiction of procurement laws in this country.”

Building cathedral isn’t a bad idea
Lawyer Tamakloe posited that building of a cathedral for him isn’t a bad idea and government can appeal to Ghanaians to donate at least GHS100 to the building of the cathedral.
“But the funny thing is that, Christians are not even willing to donate to building of the cathedral which will serve as a more diligent purpose for them than any other religious group in the country.”

Also commenting on the issues surrounding the National Cathedral, National Communications Officer for NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, criticized the Akufo-Addo-led administration for dragging some revered men of God into the National Cathedral brouhaha.
“I’m a staunch Christian and growing up we had men of God we really cherished and adored like Archbishop Duncan Williams, Apostle Onyinah, Agyin Asare, Dag Heward-Mills; they’re our heroes and they’re revered worldwide. I’m pained that Akufo-Addo wants to tarnish their image by dragging them into this whole mess.”

Sammy Gyamfi requested government not to tarnish the image of these men and leave them out of its chaos. He stated that it looks like government wants to use this National Cathedral as a ruse to steal.
“Christians must not allow government to smear these men of God otherwise it will be a dent on Christianity.”
