Prez Congratulates New NPP National Chairman, Other National Officers

H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has congratulated the newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Stephen Ayesu Ntim, and other National Officers who were elected at the Party’s National Delegates’ Conference held yesterday.

The newly elected executives will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years in its quest to ‘break the 8’, the major focus of the party in the next two years.

In Twitter post, Akufo-Addo wrote on Sunday, July 17, 2022, that “I congratulate warmly the new National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Stephen Ayesu Ntim, and the other National Officers who were elected at the Party’s National Delegates’ Conference, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, on Saturday, 16th July, 2022”.

After nearly 24 hours of a highly contested election involving over 6,000 delegates and 45 aspirants, the NPP has finally elected its new national executives.

I will make sure chairmanship remains enviable

Newly-elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Stephen Ntim, expressed gratitude to all party faithful for electing him to lead the party for the next four years.

Addressing party members after he and other National Executive officers were sworn into office, Mr. Ntim noted that “after twenty years of wandering in the wilderness before getting this far, I am going to cherish the chairmanship position, I will value the chairmanship position and I will make sure that it remains enviable”.

Mr. Ntim assured that “the new executives will work assiduously for the party to win election 2024.”

The just-ended conference was his fifth time of trying after failing to win in his previous four attempts of becoming the Party’s Chairman. Mr. Ntim polled 4,014 votes to beat his contenders in the elections held yesterday.

Despite his previous failed attempts, he served as the party’s first Vice Chairman between 2001 and 2005. Mr. Ntim’s first attempt to be chairman of the party was in December 2005. His second attempt was in 2010 while his third attempt was in 2014. In 2005, Mr. Ntim lost to Peter Mac Manu, who later became President Akufo-Addo’s campaign manager in the 2016 polls.

His second contest in 2010 ended in defeat to the late Jake Okanta Obetsebi-Lamptey and another loss to Paul Afoko in 2014. He, again, lost on the fourth attempt to Freddie Blay in 2018.

Frimpong Koduah defeats John Boadu

Meanwhile, incumbent General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, John Boadu, lost the position to Mr. Justin Frimpong Koduah, alias JFK, in the keenly contested election held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Mr. Kodua, Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), is therefore, the new General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party. The Legal practitioner polled 2,857 votes to beat Mr. John Boadu, who obtained 2,524 votes out of the total 5,556 votes cast.

The new executives of the party are: Mr. Stephen Ntim – National Chairman, Vice Chairman – Danquah Smith Buttey, Rita Asobayire – 2nd Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawuud – 3rd Vice Chairman, Mr. Justin Frimpong Koduah – General Secretary, Henry Nana Boakye – National Organiser, Kate Gyamfua -National Women Organiser, National Nasara Coordinator – Abdul Aziz Haruna Futah, National Youth Organiser -Salam Mohammed Mustafa and Treasurer – Dr Charles Dwamena.
