Nana Obiri Boahen

Former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Obiri Boahen has disclosed that President Nana Akuffo Addo can be impeached due to his delay in sacking the Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori Atta and his deputy, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen.

He added that the current reactions and press conferences by both the Minority and Majority Members of Parliament can cause a great havoc to the NPP, which is the impeachment of the President, should some Members of Parliament file a motion on that.

“Are we going to sit down for just two people to cause harm to the party? When you listen to what both the NPP and NDC are saying, if care is not taken, it will lead to the impeachment of the President himself.”

Obiri Boahen

The politician mentioned that, regardless of the President’s hard work and projects, Ghanaians would not hesitate to make him step down if he still decides to keep his cousin.

“They can probably say; we advised him to take him off, yet he did not listen, let us take the President off. That possibility is there.”

Obiri Boahen

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday October 26, Mr Boahen indicated that there would be no need to keep the finance minister and his deputy until the seal of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal as proposed by the President.

However, he noted that the absence of the finance minister would not have any negative effect on the IMF deal should he resign or be impeached, as the IMF will be dealing with policies and arrangements and not human faces.

“They are not coming to watch faces. They are coming because of policies and arrangements.

“Are you telling me the deal won’t sail through should Ken be taken ill? It will still go on.”

Obiri Boahen

There have been recent calls on the President to sack his cousin, Ken Ofori Atta, who is the finance Minister. This, is as a result of the current economy crises which includes the rapid fall of the Cedi. The price of fuel is up and the prices of items in the country keep increasing daily.

This has become a major concern for every Ghanaian including those who are in the diaspora.

Akuffo Addo Pleads On Behalf Of Finance Minister

President Nana Akufo-Addo has disclosed he can’t sack Ken Ofori-Atta now because of the ongoing IMF negotiations.

The finance minister is still in office as the President pleads for him to be given a few more weeks.

The President has told the Paliamentarians who yesterday October 25, in a press conference alled for the immediate removal of Ken Ofori Atta, to exercise some patience to at least allow him finish with the IMF deal which will help the country’s economy get a bail out.

The president made the appeal during a meeting with the agitating Majority Members of Parliament, calling for the immediate removal of the Minister.

The MPs numbering about 80 said Nana Akufo-Addo must sack Ken Ofori-Atta and his deputy, Charles Adu Boahen, because they have failed to deliver on their mandates to improve the economy.

MPs from the majority side of Parliament have threaten to disassociate themselves from any government business if the President decides to still keep him.

For the first time in history, under the the 4th Republic, law makers from the ruling party have openly called out the President to sack one of their own.

Meanwhile, the Minority Members of the law making house have filed a motion for vote of censure with regards to the same issue.
