Ofori-Atta is a wounded soldier, incompetent to deliver results – Mona Quartey

Mrs. Mona Quartey, Former Deputy Finance Minister

Former Deputy Minister of Finance, Mona Quartey, has joined the several calls for the sacking of Mr Ken Ofori Atta who is the leader of the Finance Ministry, saying that the current Minister cannot do the job of addressing the economic challenges.

She claimed the Minister, as it stands, is only expecting a “miracle” to save the ailing economy from a further downturn.

She indicated that, like a wounded soldier on the battle field, she believes Ken Ofori-Atta is unfit at this moment to head the Ministry and any attempt to push him to deliver beyond his capabilities would be a disservice to him.

“The leader as we have now, which is the Minister of Finance, is a miracle-seeking minister, not one who wants to do the work. Number two, he’s a wounded soldier, whether we like it or not and we want to send him into battle? I think that is unfair to him.”

Mrs Quartey

Spreaking in a media interview, she indicated that it would be more appropriate and helpful for the President to relieve Mr. Ofori-Atta of his post and appoint a “strong” and “capable” person to take over the management of the country’s finances.

Mrs. Qaurtey further urged President Akufo-Addo to consider some of the recommendations proposed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Opposition is a very important part of governance in this democracy that we are practicing and opposition has a stake in the game. We don’t intend to come back into power in a messed up nation.”

Mrs Quartey

She stated that the President must send a soldier who is looking for solutions, who is strong and capable to go out there and get a good IMF programme and who will also start to do the work of cleaning up in-house, so that it sends the right signals to both the international finance markets and to the domestic market.

Sacking Of Finance Minister And Matters Arising

Calls on the President to sack the finance minister has become intense and a major topic in town.

Institutions, individuals as well as some politicians have called for either the resignation of Ken Ofori Atta or his dismissal by the President.

Ghanaians for some months now, have been battling with economic crises ranging from high cost of living, increase in fuel and fares, depreciation of the local currency and the increase in prices of foodstuffs daily.

Even though the government have sought the Support of the the International Monetary Fund( IMF), Ghanaians want his cousin sacked immediately, as there is no hope he could restore the economy.

According to some government appointees, the President will soon address the nation, with regards to the enonomic crises.
