Ghanaians are Joking About Some Aspects Of The President’s Speech – Jennifer Queen

Ghanaians are joking about some aspect of the President's speech

NPP Deputy National Communications Director, Jennifer Queen

Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, the NPP Deputy National Communications Director has stated that Ghanaians are making fun of some aspects of the President’s speech instead of picking up the important things he said which will help the nation.

She noted that Former President John Mahama, during his regime, made a statement in one of his addresses to the nation that Ghanaians should “use trotro if the fuel prices are high.’’ She said that it was not new for a government in power to make such statements, relating this to the current brouhaha circulating in the country concerning some part of the President’s speech on Sunday where he said “Sika mp3 dede.”

In a panel discussion on Adekye Nsroma, she said that the previous government also tried its best about the challenges it faced during its regime which were similar to the crisis the current government is facing. She said that things have to be done to resolve the current crisis.

“I will not come and sit here and say that the hikes in fuel prices have done this or that. If I do so, I am not being fair to the other members on this panel discussion and the listeners as well. I know that the government will do something about it.”

Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen

Jennifer spoke about the differences in the prices of fuel by various fuel companies and said that she was drawing this to the attention of the energy minister and the National Petroleum Agency (NPA). She stated that these prices needed to be regulated or else, they may affect everyone in a myriad way.

According to her, the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is being renovated per what she knows, in order to make it possible for the country to refine its own oil. She also indicated that the whole world is in a global crisis and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has given a warning to most countries therefore, these are not the right times to speak any words of discouragement.

“In as much as the dollar kept rising, when they import their stuff, we were in this country when the dollar came down last week and traders were still selling goods at their preferred prices. Price control was not effective in this same country.”

I Don’t Think We Can Celebrate Christmas This Year

Meanwhile, Nana Ntow Amirekyi, a political analyst stated that for the first time in the history of Ghana, citizens of the country may have to postpone their Christmas celebrations this year due to current economic hardships.

He said that due to the issues surrounding GUTA, he does not think that Ghanaians will be able to celebrate Christmas this year stating that, the celebration is usually noticed in the month November but this time round, everyone in the country is complaining about the hikes in fuel prices and the difficulties in feeding.

He admitted that the global pandemic affected the entire world including Togo and Chad and implied that some of these countries are faring better than Ghana.

“It is because every country was given money, but those who were able to make good use of this money are not going through crisis. Simple, our managers do not know how to manage our finances.”

Nana Ntow Amirekyi

In the same discussion, Nana Amirekyi declared that those who are known as the ‘better managers of the economy’ should ensure the flow of money in the economy, adding that, if the government cared about the country, it should have revamped TOR by now in order for the country to be able to refine its own oil.

“If this government really thinks about Ghanaians, TOR should be revamped by this time. We would have been able to refine oil in this country, and the 44,000 barrels we need would be able to help in some aspects of the crisis.”
