Toyota Recalls Over Thousands of Defective Lexus Vehicle Models

Japanese automaker Toyota and its luxury subsidiary, Lexus, are recalling some categories of its vehicles, including Lexus NX260, Lexus NX3650h and Lexus NX400h+ manufactured between 31st March 2021 and 26th April 2022, due to a faulty programming of the lane keeping assist (LKA) system.

According to a statement from Toyota, the company is also recalling 6,491 Lexus NX260 with defective electric parking brake (EPB) system manufactured between 19th April 2021 and 15th July 2022.

Toyota indicated that the withdrawal is specifically premised on the fact that the vehicles will pose safety hazard to their users, thereby leading to crashes.

Moreover, Toyota and its luxury subsidiary are recalling 460,000 electrified models produced for the 2020-2022 model years to address an issue that can cause the vehicles’ stability control systems not to activate on startup, the company stated.

If you drive a new Toyota or Lexus and it has at least one electric motor in it (or it’s the new LX 600), there’s a better-than-even chance you’ll be hearing from your dealer in the coming months. The good news for owners is that the issue is one of compliance, rather than something which may immediately endanger a vehicle occupant.

“A software error can cause the Vehicle Stability Control system (VSC) not to default to ON the next time the car is started under certain circumstances. This can result in a noncompliance with applicable regulations in the U.S.

“For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will update the software of the Skid Control ECU free of charge to customers.”

Toyota

In addition, Toyota announced it is recalling a separate crossovers, and SUVs, including various Lexus models, because of a fuel pump that could stop operating. The problem could cause stalling, potentially resulting in a crash. A solution is in the works, and all known owners of these vehicles were noted, Toyota said.

If the fuel pump were to stop working, Toyota said in its statement, the engine would run rough and various warning lights would illuminate. This could stall the car, and the engine could not restart afterward. If the engine were to stall at higher speeds, the result could be a crash, Toyota added.

Owners can call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus at 1-800-255-3987 for additional information. They can also go online to and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information and find out if their vehicle was recalled.

The Toyota/Lexus recall Is one of the larger recalls for the auto industry in some time. Last September, GM recalled 107,000 Chevy SUVs after learning a suspension weld could break, causing steering problems. In 2020, it recalled 1.1 million vehicles, with Lexus models included.
