The Yendi Municipal Assembly, during its Assembly meeting has approved its 2023 budget and Mid term plans for the upcoming years.
This meeting was held in Yendi, in the Northern Region to approve its 2023 composite Budget, Fee Fixing Resolution (FFR) for 2023 financial year, and the 2023 Annual Action Plan of the Mid-Term Development Plan (MTDP) for 2022-2025.
The municipal Chief Executive of Yendi, Alhaji Hammed Abubakar Yussuf in his address said that, due to inadequate funds, they were unable to implement majority of the projects intended for this year, hence it had to be rolled over to be executed next year 2023.
“ For 2023 fiscal year, there is an expectation of a total revenue of GH₵ 29,876,634.00 and out of the figure, we are expected to generate an amount of GH₵ 773,550.00 internally, while the rest are expected from other source such as Ghana Secondary City Support Programme (GSCSP), District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT), District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), GULF of Guinea Social Cohesion Project (SOCO), USAID, UNICEF and Central Government by way of goods and services and compensation or salaries.”
“The projection should not raise expectations so high, because an amount of GH₵19,600,000.00 was projected as revenue, but as at the end of August 2022, we had received only GHC 5,093.000.”

According to him, to meet their annual target, there would be a need for the Fee Fixing Resolution by imposing levies on commercial activities. This would help assist raise some revenues.
He emphasized that, they had taken into consideration the impact the current economic situation, resulting in the increase of prices of goods and services has on its citizenry, hence it would be necessary that they made an adjustment to some of the levies which had remained the same for several years.
“There had been a meeting with the executive committee of the Assembly, and recommendations were made from its Sub-Committees and accepted that, German Cemetery in Yendi should be developed into tourist attraction sites to generate revenue for the Assembly, more refuse containers should be procured to address the solid waste management challenges in the Municipality especially, Yendi township, among others.”

GRATITUDE TO THE ASSEMBLY
Mr. Abubakar Yussuf showed his appreciation to the Assembly members for their support since his tenure of office and they deserved credit for all the achievements. He urged them to maintain the approach in resolving all critical issues that come before them.
The Presiding member of the Assembly, Mr. Hussein Abdul-Karim expressed his gratitude to the Assembly members, heads of department and all units for supporting the Assembly in formulation and implementation of key policies and programs that contributed significantly to the total development of the Municipality.
“I thank the Assembly members, heads of department, heads of the Security Agencies and all units for attending the Assembly meetings. I am disappointed in the Yendi Municipal Assembly Police Officers who usually fail to attend their meetings as they are in charge of peace and security of the Municipality.”

Mr. Abdul-Karim also appealed to the Assembly members to participate in the activities for the mobilization of revenues in their various electoral areas. He as well advised the management of the assembly to monitor the Revenue Collectors to avoid leakages.
