Manwerehene Begs Striking Manhyia Hospital Nurses To Return To Work

Manwerehene, Baffour Osei

Asantehene’s Manwerehene, Baffour Osei Hyeaman Brentuo VI, has pleaded with nurses at the Manhyia Hospital to call off their indefinite strike action.

According to him, the hospital is the first point of call for chiefs within the vicinity, hence a strike action is a matter of concern for the traditional leaders who reside in Manhyia.

Speaking in an interview, Nana Baffour indicated that the situation was rather unfortunate. He disclosed that the chiefs are in talking terms with the feuding parties for an amicable solution to be reached.

”it is a very unfortunate situation but we appeal to the feuding parties, especially the nurses that are now on strike, that they should exercise some patience for us. I called the medical Superintendent who informed me that attempts have been made to resolve it.

”Unfortunately, it looks like the decision to stop the strike should come from above. The leadership of association has come up with the decision based upon what they think has been unfairly done to one of their members. We will plead with them”

Bafffour Osei

Meanwhile, the Manwerehene stated that he has reached out to senior members within the palace to help find a solution to the problem. The chief further assured that the necessary steps will be taken to avert any future problem.

Baffour’s comments come after nurses at the Manhyia Hospital embarked on an indefinite strike action following the expiration of the 72-hour ultimatum they had served government for the dismissal of the Ashanti Regional National Service Secretariat Director, Alex Opoku Mensah.

GRNMA Suspends Indefinite Strick

Meanwhile, the Ghana Registered Nurses’ and Midwives’ Association has called off its strike in the Manhyia Hospital and intended a road map for a full scale industrial to allow the committee set by the NSS to carry out its mandate and to ensure that patients and clients do not suffer unduly.

According to a press release issued today, December 2, the association has decided to call of the strike because stakeholders, patients and clients have condemned the actions of the Ashanti Regional Director of verbally assaulting a nurse in the above mentioned hospital and have further called on the leadership of the GRNMA to suspend their strike.
