Contribute To Fix The Country’s Economy – Mustapha Hamid Charges Citizens

Dr Mustapha Hamid

Dr Abdul Hamid Mustapha, Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has called on the general public to give in their maximum commitment and support towards efforts to fix the country’s economy and ultimately develop the country.

Dr Mustapha disclosed that politicians alone could not be blamed for the country’s economic challenges, explaining that only few people were occupying political positions.

At the unveiling of the refurbished Bono Regional Coordinating Council’s (RCC) conference room in Sunyani, Dr Hamid appealed to the public, specifically public sector workers, to rededicate themselves to the development of the country. “We have no choice as Ghanaians but to contribute in whatever way we can for the betterment of the country,” he noted.

The NPA boss, advised Ghanaians against speaking ill about the nation, saying “you can speak ill about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC), but not about the country”. He revealed that successive governments had created the enabling environment and implemented favourable policies and interventions for the improvement of the lives of the citizenry.

Dr Hamid, mentioned scholarship packages for students to study in the country and outside the country, loan for university students, the Free Senior High School policy and the Planting for Food and Jobs agricultural programme as some of the commitments made by the government to improve the living standard of the citizens.

“How can about a maximum of 600 people be the cause of Ghana’s problems when there are over 30 million people? Everybody is accountable for the country’s economic challenges.”

Crimes By Public Workers

Dr Mustapha Hamid further revealed that, several public workers had engaged in negative practices such as bribery and corruption, stealing of food items meant for pupils and students, among others. He emphasized that all those illegal practices had contributed to the country’s problems, and therefore called on the public to do away with such negative practices that retardes the development of the country.

“We can change government every eight years, but if we don’t change our attitude and commitment, we will continue to remain in our challenges.”

Dr Mustapha

The conference room was refurbished by the National Petroleum Authority to improve the state of the facility. For more than 10 years, the conference room of the RCC had not seen any rehabilitation works, as parts of the infrastructure deteriorated.

Indeed, officials had claimed at different fora that the facility was not fit for purpose. The RCC was thus compelled to hire conference facilities within Sunyani to host its meetings and workshops, including security meetings.

Bono Regional Co-ordinating Council (BRCC) is a new entity which replaces the Brong Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council (BARCC). After the creation of Ahafo and Bono East Regions out of the former Brong Ahafo Region, the Brong Ahafo Region in effect ceased to exist and so does the Brong Ahafo Region Co-ordinating Council (BARCC). Because of this, it became very necessary to inaugurate the BRCC to enable it to perform its functions accordingly.

The council’s vision is to be a First-Class Decentralized and Client-focused Regional Organization in Local Government Service Delivery as well as to ensure the total development of the Region through effective co-ordination, harmonization, monitoring and evaluation of activities of the District Assemblies and Agencies within the Region.
