It Is not Feasible For Alan To Build His GTP On Akuffo Addo’s Poor Performance – Peter lachene

Hon Peter Lanchene

Hon Peter Lachene Toobu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the good people of Wa West Constituency in the Upper West Region, has questioned the decision of the resigned Trade Minister, Mr Alan Kyeremanten, to build his Great Transformation Plan (GTP) for the take-off of the country’s development on the foundation laid by the current President.

The Member of Parliament stated that, it is not feasible for the aspiring flagbearer to build his GTP on President Akuffo Addo’s foundation, as the foundation laid by the President cannot even build a ‘lotto kiosk’. He emphasized that His Excellency President Akuffo Addo’s foundation is wobbly and cannot hold anything.

To him, the President’s foundation is nothing to write home about, adding that no ‘right-thinking person’ would be proud of such foundation.

The MP made these comments while reacting to Mr Kyeremanten’s press conference after stepping down from his Trade and Industry ministerial post to pursue his ambition of becoming the flag bearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the 2024 general elections.

Hon Lanchene, who is a member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament again noted that, Mr Alan Kyerematen’s decision to build a superstructure on the economic foundations of the President was not well thought through. He opined that Alan cannot build a vision on such emptiness.

“Using Nana Addo’s foundation for the implementation of his GTP is a clear indication that Alan is bereft of ideas after serving in the President’s cabinet for six years.

“Is Alan proud of the 140 per cent of debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP)? Is he proud of the fast depreciation of the cedi as well as an economy that has been downgraded by all the credit rating organisations?”

Meanwhile, one of the spokespersons for Mr Alan Kyerematen, Mr Daniel Dugan thinks otherwise.

According to him, the President’s foundation is solid for Alan to lay on his GTP vision blocks. He said the ‘Gold for Oil’ policy is part of the foundation the GTP vision will be laid on.

Background

In a public address on Tuesday January 10, the Presidential aspirant, who is popularly known as ‘Alan Cash’ said, “I wish to use this platform to formally announce my intention to contest the flagbearship of the NPP when the party officially opens nominations for that purpose. The president has laid a strong foundation for the socioeconomic development of the country. My vision is to build on this superstructure that will bring prosperity to this nation. Together we will break the eight.”

“For all those who will have the honour and privilege of being delegates to select the Flagbearer of our great Party, the NPP, please remember, Alan Kyerematen is your candidate to win power for you in 2024.”

To every Ghanaian, he said, “The future of our country is bright. I want you fellow countrymen and women, to make me your next President when the time comes, and you will see a significant difference in your lives.”

According to the resigned Minister, if by the will of God he is voted first, as the flagbearer of the NPP and subsequently as President of the Republic in the next general elections, he will become the transformational leader of his time, who will build on the foundations laid by successive leaders of our nation over the last 65 years.

Mr Alan Kyerematen resigned last week from the Akuffo Addo led government, after serving in the portfolio since 2017. Mr Kyerematen made attempts to lead the NPP in 2007, 2010 and 2014 but came second to President Akufo-Addo in all his quests.

The aspiring flagbearer has been championing the government’s One District One Factory initiative since 2018, birthing about 170 factories across the country.
