GEXIM Bank Hosts Business Delegations From Malta

The management of Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM), a bank expected to improve the country’s export competitiveness, foreign exchange earnings and balance of trade have hosted a group of business delegations comprising of representatives from Malta Economic Development Agency, Malta Enterprise and some Maltese high profile business persons.

Mrs. Antoinette Cefai, responsible for Outreach and Internationalization at the Business Development and Growth Unit of Malta Enterprise, led the delegation as they interact with GEXIM.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Rosemary Beryl Archer, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for Banking, in an hospitable manner received the Maltese business delegation at the Bank’s head office, located at the Africa Trade House, Ridge, in Accra.

Upon welcoming the delegation, Mrs. Beryl Archer highlighted on the Bank’s mandate to facilitate the transformation of Ghana’s economy into an export focused by supporting and developing trade between Ghana and other countries, promoting overseas investments by Ghanaian Companies and elimination of critical market failures in the Ghanaian economy thereby making Ghana competitive in the global marketplace. “We seek to facilitate cross border trade and make Ghana a pillar in regional and continental trade,” she added.

“As a Development and Policy Bank, we are supporting the government of Ghana’s quest for a feasible and sustainable export-led economy. Over the years, we have financially supported several Ghanaian businesses in various capacities, as well as developing trade between Ghanaian and foreign businesses.

“We have assisted some Ghanaian businesses to make overseas investments and eliminated critical market failures in the Ghanaian economy to make Ghana competitive in the global marketplace.”

She further recommended a close working collaboration between the Bank and the High Commission of the Republic of Malta in Ghana for the benefit of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and other businesses in Ghana and Malta.

Touching on the bank’s strategic goals, Mrs. Beryl Archer divulged that GEXIM is putting in its maximum best to increase Non-Traditional Export from its average annual revenue figure, develop crops such as avocado, sweet potatoes and coconut into major Non-Traditional export products, finance and develop strategic import substitute products such as poultry and rice, act as agent of Government (Act 911, Function 25), be a key finance partner for effective implementation of its  Industrialization agenda and special Initiatives such as One District One Factory (1D1F).

The Hope For Partnership

On her part, Mrs. Antoinette Cefai averred that the Republic of Malta is a stable democratic country that is very welcoming to an innovative mind-set, with an open business-centric and a commercial community that stands tall as a European Union member-state with a proven record of economic success.

She further expressed their appreciation to the Bank’s executive management for hosting them and discussing the team’s avenues of possible collaboration between Malta Enterprise, GEXIM, clients of GEXIM and other Ghanaian businesses to develop trade between the two countries.

Other members of the Maltese Delegation included Christopher Busuttil Delbridge, Managing Director of Evolve; Keith Vassallo, Solaman El Khazmi- Directors of Associated Equipment and Scott Francis, Chief Technology Officer-Trust Stamp.

GEXIM team that hosted the delegation included Head of the Advisory Department, Frank Obeng; Senior Manager at the Corporate Affairs Department, Emmanuel Essilfie-Conduah; and the Assistant Manager- Corporate Affairs and International Cooperation, Jonathan Christopher Koney.
