Sena Dake - President of Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana

Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) has hinted on meting out severe sanctions against members complicit in the Auditor General’s report in infractions and misappropriation of funds by State Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

According to the Institute, it has launched investigations into the misconduct with help from the Auditor-General’s office to identify members who contributed to the unethical practices.

Sena Dake, President of the Association made this known at a Press Soiree to mark the Institute’s 60th Anniversary celebrations.

“We are looking forward to working closely with them (the Auditor General’s Department) to do further investigations. And where individuals who have practiced as accountants or who have practiced within the finance space have been found to be wanting in certain areas that flout the standards and the regulations and the ethical values of ICA Ghana will be brought strictly under the same sanctions that ICA Ghana has meted out for these members.

“When we do further investigations, the report of the Auditor-General will bring out individuals behind the non-compliance and all those people will be part of our disciplinary process.”

About ICAG

The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana has since the mid-sixties been providing accountancy training at both technical and professional levels.

The pass rates in the early days of the Association’s existence were low due to non-availability of reading materials.

This trend has seen a massive turn around getting into the 80s with the availability of accounting manuals to facilitate learning. The organization has since been performing incredulously.

ICAG was established in June 2009 following the Institute’s effort to provide readily available tuition to prospective and regular students on part-time and regular streams.

Tuition is provided in three levels(Parts 1 to 3) in the ICAG College, where a conducive learning environment is provided to aid learning.

ICAG exists to nurture professional accountants of the highest quality, who are ready to provide cutting edge services to clients at all occasions and who uphold the ethical values of the accountancy profession.

The institute seeks to premier institute of Chartered Accountants in Africa by: having a technically competent and appropriate membership; providing services of the highest professional standards to industry, commerce and the government; being recognized for highest standards of competencies, integrity and excellence; providing the best services to members and students and lastly, being accepted as an authoritative body in accountancy and financial matters.

The Association has since its inception worked actively to achieve all these aspirations.

As part of its core values, each Association member is expected to uphold competency, integrity, excellence and versatility.

Failure to live by these laid down values will attract severe sanctions from the Institute, which has Integrity at its center stage.
