NPP Communications Director Deletes Fake NDC Letter Tweet After Backlash

Richard Ahiagbah

Twitter users went after the New Patriotic Party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, after he posted a letter that allegedly rescinded controversial changes to the National Democratic Congress’ leadership in Parliament.

Ahiagbah, who has all this week taken pot shots at the NDC’s leadership over the crisis, captioned a tweet of the said letter;  “Finally, we are back to the beginning. The first task in charge; failed. We hope the appropriate lessons have been learned.” He then forgot that the internet never forgets.

Most commenters quickly called him out by plying copies of the said letter with “fake” written in red font in quoted tweets and in the comments section. Barely an hour after the tweet, which was posted today, Ahiagbah deleted the tweet, ostensibly due to heavy backlash.

Sources say that the letter had been circulating since Thursday which was widely disclaimed by the members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The letter, dated January 26, 2023, was on an NDC letterhead and bore the signature of NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey which was addressed to the Speaker of Parliament with the title: “TEMPORARY RECISSION OF NOTICE ON CHANGES IN THE LEADERSHIP OF THE NDC PARTY IN PARLIAMENT.”

It sought to convey the view that the Haruna Iddrisu-led Minority leadership should remain in place instead of the newly-appointed Ato Forson leadership. There has been a row over the modus operandi the national leadership led by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah employed in replacing Haruna as Minority Leader; some MPs insist it was done without consultations and needs to be reversed, another bloc disagrees and backs the party.

NDC Group Condemns Asawase NDC Members For Storming Party Office And Burning Of Tyres

Concerned members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase constituency of the Ashanti region have condemned the recent storming of party office and burning of tyres by some Asawase party supporters of the NDC party to protest the new reshuffling of the minority caucus in parliament.

According to the concerned members it was very unfortunate for such an incident to happen. They however commended the regional police command for their quick intervention that led to the salvage of the situation and its likelihood of further occurrences.

They said the unfortunate act which was conducted by some group which was not done in the interest of the entire party members of Asawase. Setting the record straight, Omar Harris, convener for the group and Regional Communication Member of the NDC further called on the NEC to still look into some pressing matters in the Asawase constituency since there is still no unity.

According to Omar Harris, some group of persons who usually tag themselves in series of press conferences as members of the Asawase constituency executive committee do not reflect their tag in reality. He said, most of the group’s non-official press conferences bring the name of the Asawase constituency NDC into disrepute.

“We want the leadership to know that there are still some problems within the Asawase NDC. We said it but they told us there was no problem. We now want to state on record that there is a problem we need to solve. How can you call for a press conference, tag it as a confab held by the NDC Asawase executive without inviting some leaders of the party but about one or two executives who are known to be working in the interest of someone?

“You tag a press conference as an executive committee press conference without inviting key persons such as the chairman, the women organiser, deputy youth organiser and most of the other executive…”
