Ghana stopped working 57 years after the overthrow of Nkrumah– CPP

Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has condemned the current state of Ghana’s economy, as it commemorates the overthrow of the first President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, which happened on February 24, 1966.

In a statement issued on Friday; February 24, 2024, the CPP, said that the strong foundation laid by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has been eroded by the poor management of the country by successive governments since his overthrow.

It added that after Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to resist the oppressors rule, the country after 57 years, is now oppressed by disease, poverty, poor health care, infrastructure deficit in education and housing, as well as poor roads.

NDC Maintains Edge in 2028 Election Polls

“Today, 57 years after the unfortunate February 24 coup detat, that ousted the CPP government, which was led by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana has stopped working, the nation is at a standstill, and nothing is being done to salvage the socio-economic problems we find ourselves in.

“Whilst the CPP was doing everything possible to lay the foundation for a prosperous and an economic independent nation, the local imperialists were busy with their foreign counterparts, to stake a coup, to oust the CPP out of government.”

The Convention Peoples Party iterated, that the country in its current state was pleading for a better economy as it had been woefully mismanaged by the governments at play. It claimed that the country was broke and resorted to taking money from the vulnerable in society.

The party said the country does not even qualify to participate in an IMF program, since the current portfolio was scary and very unsustainable. It also berated the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, for the current state of Ghana’s economy.

The party stated that it is unconscionable that Ghana, which was the promising child of Africa under the leadership of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, will now go around the world begging countries like China, for its debts to be cancelled because the Akufo-Addo government had borrowed so much.

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP), urged Ghanaians to vote it back to power because it is the only party, as the records have proven, that can truly transform Ghana.

Akufo-Addo Rescheduled To Deliver State Of Nations Address On March 8

However, President Akufo-Addo has been rescheduled to address Parliament on the state of the nation on March 8, 2023, instead of February 28, as earlier announced.

Presenting the House’s business statement for the ensuing week, Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, said: “the message of the state of the nation would not come off as earlier advertised.”

He didn’t give reasons why the address was rescheduled to the chagrin of the Member of Parliament for Tongu North, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. According to Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the delivery of the state of the nation address, is the most important constitutional assignment in the current meeting of the lawmaking chamber and must be prioritized. For him, rescheduling it without any reason is unacceptable.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, however, disagreed, arguing that the committee’s action, as regards the scheduling of the date, is within the provision of the law, and has not faulted.
