Ashaiman Brutalities: You Don’t Hold Such A Case For Five Years– Sam George

Sam Nartey George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has called on the Judicial system to speed up justice for the slain soldier.

According to him, people normally take the law into their hands to punish offenders of a murder, because the judicial system always delays in getting justice for the victims.

The Circuit Court in Ashaiman, has remanded all the six accused persons who have been arrested in connection with the killing of the 21-year-old soldier, Imoro Sherif, at Ashaiman on 4th March, 2023.

The suspects, Safianu Musah alias Dayorgu and Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, Samuel Tetteh; alias Wiper and Abubakar Sadick; alias Birdman, Yussif Mohammed and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim, were charged with stealing, robbery, and receiving of dishonest goods.

In Court on Monday, March 13, 2023, lawyers for the two main accused persons pleaded for bail for his clients, but the Judge, Simon Gaga, declined because the lawyer could not prove their permanent place of abode.

Commenting on the issues, Mr. Nartey, stated that in order to ensure justice for the killed soldier, the justice system must not delay judicial process for too long as seen with other cases.

“Ensure that we get justice for the slain soldier, you don’t hold such a case for five years because then, you begin to make people feel that they cannot get justice from our judicial system. We had videos of the murder of Major Mahama, we saw people take a block and smash the head of a Major in our Armed Forces, we saw a woman light and set his body on fire.

“How much longer; yes, I understand that the ways of justice run slow but the judges must also bear in mind that, we have lawyers whose job is to filibuster and deliver, delay the process and abuse the purposes of the court. You just don’t allow such things to go on, our judiciary must allow us the expeditious disposal of such cases.”

Mr. Sam George, also asked for justice to be sought for the Ashaiman residents who were brutalized by the military. He continued: “184 of them who were brutalized, either in Ashaiman or moved to Michelle camp and from Michelle camp, moved to the Burma camp. That cannot be accepted in 2023 in Ghana,” he added.

Nunoo-Mensah Blames Akufo-Addo For Military Brutalities On Ashaiman Residents

However, former security advisor to the late President Atta Mills, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, has blamed President Akufo-Addo for the military brutalities against residents of Ashaiman on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

Soldiers believed to have come from Michel and Burma Camp, stormed Taifa-Ashaiman, where the 21-year-old soldier was killed and started brutalizing residents.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah, averred that since President Akufo-Addo is the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the buck should stop with him.

“If they brought the military including the Air-Force and others, it wouldn’t have been done without the knowledge of the President, who is the Commander-In-Chief. The buck wouldn’t stop with the Chief of Denfence Staff, rather the Commander-In-Chief. So, the buck stops with the President who should sit and find out what went wrong.

“The military are bound by civil and military law, so the President must sit down and find out whatever went wrong and deal with the matter, but the buck stops with him. I will never have done this, it happened in my time and I was fighting my minister and eventually I was sacked… I didn’t bother.”
