Dishonesty In Akufo-Addo Gov’t Extraordinary– Sammy Gyamfi

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described the death of former Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto, as a big blow to the government.

The former Old Tafo MP died on Monday, March 20, after a short illness. Speaking at a meeting with the family of the late MP at the Jubilee House, Akufo-Addo said the government and the NPP will miss the former MP dearly.

“I have known Akoto Osei for a very long time, and we’ve been friends for a long time. In the 80s, he used to visit me at my house in Silver Springs in Washington, so I am actually part of his family. He has helped our party in many diverse ways, the Kufuor government and my government, so this death is really painful for all of us.”

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Dr. Akoto Osei was the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Constituency for 16 years and the Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation, during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term, from 2017 to 2021.

Parliament on Tuesday, March 21, eulogised the late MP with the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, assuring his family of the House’s support in their grieving moments. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, paid a tribute to the late MP before the commencement of proceedings on March 21.

“We will play our roles and do all we can to assuage the pain of such a shock not only to the family but to the whole nation. I was sad when I heard about his death. I think it’s proper we observe a minute of silence for his soul. May his soul and all the departed souls rest in perfect peace.”

Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, who died on Monday 20th March, 2023, was on admission at a private facility in Accra, from where he was referred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he passed on.

Dr. Akoto Osei served as Member of Parliament for Tafo Pankrono, from January 2005 to January 2021. He first served as a Deputy Finance Minister in President John Agyekum Kufuor’s government and later a Minister of State, at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.

Dr. Osei was born in Sunyani, the capital of Bono Region, then Brong Ahafo Region on April 18, 1953, had his secondary level education at Achimota School and Opoku Ware Senior High School.

However, in February 2017, Dr. Osei was sworn in as Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation, after being nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, after going through the vetting processes in Parliament.

The Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation, was a newly created Ministry to evaluate, monitor, plan, review summits and forums in fulfillment of the government’s policies, programmes and social interventions on evaluating the progress of its own ministries.
