Flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has revealed that he is confident the party will win the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the party is unfazed by Bryan Acheampong’s claim that the NPP will never hand over power to the NDC.

Mr. Mahama addressing party delegates in the Akuapem North and South Constituencies at Akropong in the Eastern region on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, stated that regardless of the stance taken by the NPP, the NDC will not underplay the role of God in the 2024 elections. He explained that God had already decided the outcome of the 2024 elections, and nobody can change it regardless of what they do.

“Don’t pay attention to some of the things being said by some people, because it is God’s plan. I go to Church and I have faith that when I kneel and pray, God speaks to me sometimes. God told me that it is our time, and He has already given us the power. When God speaks, no one can change it so let’s continue to pray and believe in Ghanaians that whatever God has put in place will come to pass.”

Furthermore, the former President called on party supporters to maintain a decent campaign and unite to ensure the party wins even at the parliamentary level. He further urged all Parliamentary Candidate (PC) hopefuls of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to engage in a clean campaign ahead of the primaries.

Mr Mahama entreated them to rally behind whoever will be elected the parliamentary candidate to ensure a win for the NDC.

“Let us not resort to insult because we are one family, this is one party, we are looking for one thing, power. Let us support whoever will be elected parliamentary candidate and when your time comes you will also be supported. It is not only the MP that we have, if we come to power, we have board chairmen, we have Ambassadors, DCEs, and a lot of appointments and so if you don’t become an MP you will get an appointment. So, let us keep the campaign decent and when one person has emerged, let us all support that person and let the party come to power.”

NDC convinced of victory in 2024 elections

Mr Mahama noted that by God’s grace the party has the experience, which it “didn’t buy” from the “store” but it’s a God-given one. With this, he iterated the standing of the NDC and highlighted that despite some comments by the opposition NPP in recent times, victory is assured the party.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress have declared their support for the former President ahead of the party’s parliamentary and presidential primaries.

Addressing branch executives of Okere and Akuapem North and South constituencies at Akropong, the Eastern regional chairman of NDC Mark Oliver Kevor who pledged a full endorsement for the former President said Mr Mahama has already been tried and tested.

The former President is currently in the Eastern Region to begin a three-day campaign tour. As part of the tour, he met delegates and branch executives of Okere.

As part of his bid to win the flagbearership of the party, former President John Dramani Mahama is touring the country to engage party faithfuls in various constituencies to espouse his plans for the country, come the 2024 elections.

Mr Mahama will visit thirty-one (31) constituencies where he will meet and interact with branch and constituency executives. He has so far toured 7 regions, touching ground in 106 constituencies.

In the Eastern Region, former President Mahama will speak about his vision of “Building the Ghana we want together,” and why securing a convincing win in the NDC primaries will be a great boost for the 2024 presidential election.

He will also share his plans towards improving the party’s polling and electoral area campaign, through voter mobilizing and canvassing, and the effective utilization of campaign materials and resources.
