We Are Not Aware Of Any Compensation Paid To Fameye – NPA

Ghanaian artist, Fameye

The National Petroleum Authority, the statutory Agency regulating the petroleum downstream industry in Ghana has stated that it is not aware of any compensation paid to Ghanaian musician, Fameye, regarding the adulterated fuel incident at a fuel station.

Fameye in a recent interview disclosed that he had received compensation of GHC 25,000 from the unnamed fuel station after it filled his car with fuel mixed with water.

According to him, he filled up his vehicle in preparation for a show in Kumasi. However, a few minutes after leaving the fuel station, his car started jerking, and he continued to drive until it stopped at a roundabout.

The fuel station involved in the incident has since compensated Fameye with GHC25,000 for the damages caused to his vehicle.

However, in a tweet by the NPA, the authority stated that it had no idea of any compensation paid to Fameye or the identity of the fuel station in relation to the incident.

Fameye after expressing his frustrations over the matter in March was asked by individuals to report the matter to the appropriate authorities but went silent until he mentioned the hefty compensation package during his interview.

Although his car has now been fixed, Fameye expressed his disappointment and sadness over the entire situation but has refused to disclose the identity of the fuel station in question.

Lookalikes have good and bad side

Ghanaian musician, Fameye, waded into the latest online controversy over celebrity doppelgängers and impostors.

In recent times, lookalikes of Ghanaian musicians including  Kuami Eugene, King Promise, Mr. Drew, and Medikal have drawn attention to themselves after they were spotted at events and on media platforms impersonating their original celebrities.

While some artists such as Shatta Wale and Medikal have argued that these doppelgängers are poising a nuisance to their brand and craft, Fameye believes otherwise.

The “Nothing I Get” hitmaker shared his opinion when he appeared as a guest in an interview.

He pointed out:

“Mine wasn’t a warning. I saw the video and I think he kinda looks like Fameye and it’s okay. There are a lot of people that look alike in the world. Let me speak for myself and my brand. There are people who have not heard my song and this lookalike has made them hear about me”.

Fameye, 28, went on to explain that he has no ill will toward the lookalike, who he sees as a harmless and well-intentioned fan.

He indicated:

“I actually went on his page on Tiktok and I realized he actually has a couple of videos of me in a duet. So every song I have that is not even loud he knows the song so in a way he’s also pushing my music and the Fameye brand”.

He however cautioned him via DM to desist from using his image or brand for illegal activities and hammered:

“Just make sure you don’t do anything illegal because when I find you playing shows or taking money from people now that’s going to be a problem but in as much as I said this I don’t need to wait for it to happen before I go in and speak. He should just have fun”.

According to a legal expert, a celebrity can also sue a lookalike for impersonating them which could lead to a 20 years prison term.
