Kumawu By-Election: An Already Signed Pink Sheet Appears At The Polling Station

Pink Sheet for Voting

Pink Sheet for Voting

In the ongoing by-election in the Kumawu constituency, Nurudeen Hamidan, an executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has cautioned all party agents not to sign pink sheets, till voting is complete.

The NDC claimed it had found out that several pink sheets being used for the elections were already signed, while voting was still going on, thus Mr. Hamidan issued the warning to party agents.

Mr. Hamidan, who was formerly Asokore Mampong’s Chief Executive, urged the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to make sure that no pink sheet that has already been signed is utilized in the poll.

However, the officials of the Electoral Commission have since updated the pink sheet document, and the NDC has changed some of its agents at various polling stations.

He continued by saying that the NDC would put every effort to prevent a rigged election in the election being conducted today in favor of the incumbent New Patriotic Party.

A by-election is being held by the EC in the Kumawu constituency as a result of Philip Basoah’s passing in March of this year.

Both of the two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in power, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in opposition, have made repeated attempts to seize the parliamentary seat.

According to the EC that is organizing it, all the required materials have been provided for a fruitful and peaceful by-election.

The parliamentary candidates are Ernest Yaw Anim of the NPP, Akwasi Amankwaa of the NDC, also known as “Tom Cee,” and two other independents with the same name, Kwaku Duah.

NDC Calls Bawumia A ‘Mischievous Liar’

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has come under fire from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over comments he made regarding industrialization, while campaigning in Kumawu over the weekend.

During a campaign stop in the Ashanti Region’s Kumawu constituency, Dr. Bawumia asserted, “NDC built only two factories, but the NPP has built over 150 factories.”

In response to the claims made by the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NDC said, “The claim by the Vice President is a barefaced lie. For the records, the erstwhile NDC/Mahama administration established strategic, high priority State-owned factories that anchored growth in key sectors of the Ghanaian economy.”

In a statement signed by the party’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi added that “We must hasten to point out to the Vice President that if his so-called 150 factories claim relates to government’s poorly-implemented 1D1F program, then he needs to educate himself and cure his own ignorance about the nature of their so-called 1D1F initiative. This is because, none of the said 1D1F factories, was actually built by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.”

During the same campaign, Dr. Bawumia received criticism for saying that “Guinea fowls flew to Burkina Faso under John Mahama”.

The NDC said that the statement was nothing more than a “deliberately contrived lie that Bawumia and his ilk continue to rehash…the Vice President will continue to dabble in this cheap spin, reveals how low he has descended.”

“Indeed, it is noteworthy to remind Bawumia and his likes that Manasseh Azuri Awuni, the journalist who investigated the guinea fowl production and marketing joint venture project by the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and the Asongtaba Cottage Industry is on public record to have refuted this claim.”
