In order to avoid repeating the inefficiency and corruption that are currently occurring under the Akufo-Addo administration, Former President John Dramani Mahama has issued a warning to NDC members and Ghanaians in general.

Former President John Dramani Mahama remarked during the 44th anniversary of the insurrection in Hohoe, that the commemoration of the June 4th uprising is to guard the survival of democracy and reflect on the current happenings in the country.

The Former President argued that the NPP’s mismanagement of the country is harming everyday Ghanaians, and he called for a united NDC to run in the 2024 elections.

“We are responsible for organizing and letting our message of hope reach everyone across the length and breadth of our land. The dark days will last only for a moment more and a new dawn is lurking on the horizon.

“And when that new dawn breaks, the governmental rot, the economic hardships and the insensitivity to the plight of the people and the offensive corruption and waste of the people’s resources will be a thing of the past. Do not allow people who have made lives difficult for you all these years to mislead you with hollow sloganeering, and shallow populism.”

J.D. Mahama

He urged the NDC to support the party in the 2024 elections regardless of their origin or familial relationships, and urged them not to be misled by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He highlighted that the NDC government must set a new norm for governance once it assumes power, in order for Ghanaians to understand that the NDC is not doomed to live with this level of greed and impunity.

Worlanyo Tsekpo, the NDC’s newly elected candidate for the Hohoe constituency, also pledged to win back the parliamentary seat the party lost in the 2020 elections.

The Hohoe constituency’s residents are quite angry, according to Mr. Tsekpo, who spoke at the 44th anniversary celebrations of the June 4th revolt in Hohoe. Thus, he claimed that this will likely lead to the electing of a new representative in the 2024 elections.

“The uprising happened because of lies, and today it is worse than before, the uprising happened because of corruption, today people are praised and honoured for being corrupt in our beloved country. We are ready to deliver the Hohoe seat back to the NDC. We are ready to make John Mahama, the next President of Ghana.”

June 4 Must Revive A Fire In Us To Work Harder For A Better Future

At the 44th anniversary of the June 4 revolt, former President John Dramani Mahama remarked that exactly 44 years ago, Ghana was engulfed in a conflagration that was started by a struggle for justice and accountability. Sadly, there were casualties.

“We honour the memory of all who were involved in the catastrophic events of June 4, 1979. Their sacrifices paved the way for the democracy and constitutional governance we enjoy today. June 4 birthed the principles of probity and accountability.

“The events of that uprising must spur those of us in positions of leadership today to work selflessly and tirelessly towards a brighter future for Ghana and uphold the legacy of those who came before us. Let us commemorate this important day with utmost respect and gratitude.”
