Assin North By-Elections: Agya Koo Campaigns For The NPP

Agya Koo

Famed Kumawood actor Alex Kofi Adu, well known as Agya Koo, has warned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the seat will never return to the NDC party, despite the misinformation the party spread within the Assin North Constituency.

In addition, he has vigorously defended President Akufo-Addo against attempts by his political adversaries to gain political advantage by exploiting the contentious LGBT+ community.

He accused leading members of the NDC of engaging in propaganda against President Akufo-Addo and the NPP over claims that seeks for more numbers in parliament to throw out the legalization of the LGBTQ+ bill, describing the claims as baseless.

He stated that leading NDC members have made suggestions that if the NPP wins the Assin North parliamentary seat, Parliament will ban LGBTQ people from voting. Agya Koo underlined that as a result of President Akufo-Addo and the NPP’s development initiatives in the area, the good people of Assin North area would vote en masse for the NPP.

“Come to Assin North and witness asphalt roads, markets, schools and ongoing developmental projects by NPP and Nana Addo. The people of Assin North are ready to say thank you to NPP and Nana Addo with their votes.

“NDC propaganda against President Akufo-Addo and NPP over LGBTQ will never give them victory in Assin North. Ghanaians are aware that President Akufo-Addo and NPP will never accept LGBTQ so NDC members are just spreading propaganda to win sympathy votes in Assin North but they will never succeed.”

Agya Koo

However, according to another well-known Kumawood actor, Michael Afranie, the NDC will win the Assin North constituency by-elections through Gyakye Quayson, even if Gyakye Quayson is put in jail.

The well-known Kumawood actor, who is also a supporter of the NDC, asserted that Assin North residents will make an informed choice because they have seen the cruel treatment meted out to their former MP by President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.

NDC And NPP Accuse Each Other Of Influencing Voters Through Gifts

George Opare Addo, the NDC’s National Youth Organizer, charged the NPP with using public funds to influence voters.

He said that the NPP leadership was delivering goods like fertilizer, cutlasses, Wellington boots, and roofing sheets in Assin North NDC strongholds in exchange for votes.

Opare Addo, also known as Pablo, bemoaned the government’s waste of public funds in order to steal one seat from the NDC.

Opare Addo, the NDC National Youth Organiser, expressed confidence that these claims will not affect the results of the by-election notwithstanding what has been said.

The National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, however, responded by denouncing the NDC’s actions as hypocritical and indicative of double standards.

He made it clear that both parties were giving Assin North voters gifts, but for various causes.

Nana Boakye defended the NPP’s activities by further stating that the supplies were being given in response to the chiefs and residents of Assin North’s requests. He claimed that the NPP candidate, Charles Opoku, whose NGO has been running comparable operations for years, was the driving force behind these initiatives.

The NDC’s criticism of the NPP’s activities, according to Nana Boakye, is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.
