Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

The Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, during the STEM Road Show in Accra, revealed that in an effort to advance STEM education, the government will open a Creative Arts Senior High School in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, in September 2023.

Students that do admirably in the audition process will have the chance to enroll in the school that is now being built, where science and engineering will be interwoven into the art classes.

The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that students are molded into the creative arts industry and emphasized that both the back and front ends of the creative arts will aid the nation in developing its human capital.

Dr. Yaw Adutwum revealed that the creative arts Senior High School in Kumasi, Ghana, which is currently under construction will accept students from all over Ghana and that it will be a boarding school, an independent school, and a school for gifted students.

“And we will ensure the future of the country is moulded in the creative arts industry and other professionals who will do the backend of creative arts and front end of creative arts to help the nation in our search towards developing first-class human capital. It is something that will put us at the forefront of socio-economic transformation. The world went through the second industrial revolution (steam engine).

“We are not jumping to full steam, however, we want to make sure that art courses are integrated into our STEM schools. So that we will create a well-rounded citizenry, and not just focus on engineering and other related courses.”

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

He further disclosed that the government has established other STEM schools across the nation and that he was thrilled that one was being created in Kumasi.

Students Urged To Desist From Malpractice

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum pleaded with schools to refrain from cheating on exams.

He adds that examination fraud is undermining the reputation of the educational system and has done more harm than good to the educational sector.

“Whatever it takes, malpractice must end so that we can really see the schools that are doing well, and we can really see where we are not doing well so that we can do better. So the era of exam malpractice should be over at all levels.”

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

Dr. Yaw Adutwum emphasized that his organization will take strict measures to make sure that test-taking fraud was eliminated from the educational system. He took use of the chance to urge the kids to stop engaging in such actions and take their academics seriously.

Additionally, according to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, the government has not overlooked any of the nation’s basic schools.

He explained that this was due to the government’s plans to start building new schools all around the nation as part of its attempts to get rid of schools built under trees and other infrastructure deficiencies in the nation.

The Minister of Education made this statement at the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Promotion Roadshow in Accra.

“In the next few weeks through the World Bank intervention and other development banks’ intervention, a number of new schools are going to be built across the country. Some constructions have begun. So if you are watching us from anywhere in this country understand that we have not neglected our basic schools even as we reform our Senior High Schools.”

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

Dr. Adutwum added that the government was working hard and spending money to create brand-new STEM institutions that will function as full-fledged independent schools.
