Not Everyone Is Obligated To Contribute To Society – Stonebwoy

Ghanaian dancehall superstar, Stonebwoy, has shared his perspective on artists’ involvement in Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRs) stating that he loves being socially active.

He said:

“As an artist who loves to be socially active, I don’t only use my music and voice, but I plan towards practicalizing solutions to certain problems, but not everyone is obligated to do the same”.

In an interview, the artist spoke on the importance of valuing every individual’s life.

He stated that his commitment to social responsibility comes from his fundamental beliefs.

Stonebwoy said though he is not having a lot of resources, he believes he has a passion for contributing to social issues in the country.

He added:

The reggae/dancehall artist has been noted for his stance against illegal mining, which is commonly known as ‘galamsey’.

He expressed the drastic effects the ‘galamsey’ can have on the lives of humans, especially in the pollution of water bodies like River Pra which has negatively impacted the other six communities’ water bodies along the river bank in the Shama district of the Western region.

Stonebwoy’s Livingstone Foundation has made significant contributions to the affected communities by taking cautionary steps in addressing the issue.

The foundation is known to have donated 40,000-liter capacity mechanized boreholes to four out of the six communities.

These boreholes have become a lifeline, providing treated water to eight communities, and the potential for individual homes to be connected.

He stated:

“Even if I don’t know enough about ‘galamsey’ situations, we can all see the effect of it. I saw a whole river flow that looked like a cup of tea”.

Stonebwoy revealed that he has no interest in supporting young artists due to the ingratitude he faced in the past.

Clarifying his comment, he said:

“I have always supported young artistes but it’s not all the support that’s obvious even with some unless the person says it before you know it’s for real.

“It goes on constantly and I can mention a lot of names right now but we all saw what happened and all of that so there’s a huge issue with our system”.

He further remarked:

“Because of that, there are so many things and investments that can go wrong coupled with too much stuff that can make you lose vim.

“When something makes you lose vim and to be able to do it again you have to be careful to strategize but I’m not afraid at all and I’ll always continue to help people”.

In a recent interview, Stonebwoy stated that new artists only add up to the music family so they can push together.

He said:

“It’s important for a new crop of artists to continue to emerge because once upon a time we were also very fresh in the music scene. It’s important and like a family and life so we have to grow to keep the structure running so that we can get grandfathers and mothers, masters and children.

“One thing I always say is that we should see it as a natural thing either than it will be like the emergence of new artists is making old ones fade which isn’t true. But it should rather be like adding up new members to the family to give the family a good name so it’s very important to get new artists so we can push together”.
